Best Places to eat with Kids in Stafford

After having our new born son and finding out as a result we were barred from Ye Old Rose and Crown in town because they operate a "No Under 15's" policy it made me wonder where are the Best places to go in town and the surrounding areas.

From new borns to toddlers and teenagers, where would you all recommend for the combination of great food and being made to feel welcome? We currently love the Yard as the food has really improved and it has an atmosphere where you can relax and the all important baby changing facilities.

But variety is good. Where else do people recommend so we can mix and match where we go out when we get chance?

We've not been the yard in ages, I always saw it as a nighttime chav bar? Will give it another go.

I'll be interested to see what is suggested here, as we are stuck for places too.

I gave my son some vouchers that I had for the Yard and he went for something to eat with his girlfriend.

They walked in and straight out again, said it was really awful.

Mind you to be fair they were showing the football so perhaps he was not seeing it as it's best.

Meanwhile the vouchers are going unused.

This isn't my specialist subject, but I wonder if the Bankhouse is any good in this respect? Their website offers no clue.

Its no good, I can't hold it in anymore.....

I don't go out very often, but when I do go to a pub - its to get away from the little buggers!

Can you really object to kids (as long as they're well behaved) in a town centre pub, in the day time?

I’ll admit I don't like it in the evenings, mainly because it means we're paying a babysitter and don't want to be dealing with the offspring of people who haven't bothered.

I always find the swan to be good but they do have couple of things that make life very difficult if you have a baby, such as having to go to reception to get a key for the baby changing facilities, then when you're done you have to take it back again, it might sound like nothing but with a 4 month old and a four year old it's just hassle you don't need. Also I don't much like their policy of not giving you water to warm a bottle, they have a bottle warmer but it has to leave your possession and I don't like it, also half the time you have to go and find someone 15 mins later in order to get it back. They say it's and insurance issue but every other place manages perfectly well and again it just eliminates a hassle that isn’t needed.

As mentioned above – Number 15

The Creperie is also welcoming for children, although a little tricky to manoeuvre with a push chair, although isn’t yet licenced.

Pizza Express are also very accommodating.

Chambers was fantastic. I used to take my son regulalry- obviously not enough to keep it open tho.

Swan on an afternoon is good and I take the boy if it looks fine so we can sit outside and mainly bother thsmokers and not the rest of the bar.

Agreed about the Yard when football is on. It's probably one of the better bars in town for that too so it gets busy. Tell them to try a different time of day and see what they think.

Chambers was excellent, really enjoyed it there and it's a shame they've gone.

I agree about wanting to "Get away from the little buggers" in the evening like Bob said but during the day I think it's great that families can get out and about and support businesses. Too easy for some kids to sit in all day and never experience going out for a meal.

I'm not sure I would have dared try the swan with a kid but will give it a go based on the above. Pizza Express we love too so will be back in there! :)

Keep them coming....... ;)

does it have to be in stafford town, some of the surrounding villages are fairly welcoming, a few have swings etc. theres always the whacky warehouse, brewster bear type venues.
look forward to seeing others suggestions.

The swan seems to be really popular for with people with children, I've walked out of there a few times in the day as it was too much like a middle class kindergarten .

The butlers bell also seems to be full of pushchairs,

and possibly the vine might be welcoming.

Yes!

Well no, in the daytime its acceptable if they're with adults and having a meal together, if the children are well behaved and the adults are not busy getting hammered!

There are lots of pubs that welcome kids like the Red Hill or the Seven Stars, take them there.....restaurants and bistros to take them to.....why take them to a pub when there are plenty of other places to take them?

I know I sound like a mardy old moo, but when I go out to pubs into town, I arrange for a babysitter, I don't then expect to have to put up someone elses offspring running round causing havoc- I go for the adult company, if I wanted to be surrounded by kids I would stay at home!
