Beware of cash point thieves in the area

My OH went to use the cash point at Rising Brook Coop tonight and it ate his card. He came home and phoned the bank straight away to cancel it and was told someone had tried to take money out 4 times (£300, £200, £100, then £50) but the machine had blocked it. So they'd then gone to the cashpoint at Tesco, by which time we'd cancelled the card so the machine retained it.

We've contacted the police so they're aware, but please be careful when using the cash machines, and if anything seems odd (my OH said the machine was unusually slow at taking his card) or if it eats your card, please contact your bank right away.

I've also heard to check your receipt at the till as an extra £1000 has been taken up to three times in the last week in normal transactions

Machine swallowed my card the other week - was genuine as the machine reset right in front of me (Windows 95 LMFAO) but regardless, I rang my bank right while I was stood there and they cancelled it. Would recommend anyone else did the same, don't walk away!!!

A slight derail, but it's quite amazing how much the older Windows operating systems are still depended on. Windows 95 on cashpoints, Windows XP on the self checkouts at Asda and I have business customers still using Windows 98 on some shop tills / EPOS systems that refuse to upgrade as it means spending massive amounts of cash on a new EPOS if they do.

Back onto topic now, I rarely seem to use cashpoints these days as a lot of my customers pay cash anyway so I only really pay money IN to cover bills etc. However on the rare occassions that I do, I always try to use my finger nails to ensure that the card slot is solid and definitely a part of the machine rather than something just clipped on over the outside. I also only use actual bank cashpoints - I don't like the thought of using these free-standing ones inside shops.

Same here - in fact, I only ever use one machine, so I know what it should look like, and then, I only use it three or four times a year.

The NHS is massively dependant on XP, so much so that they paid a billion squillion quid to Microsoft to extend support recently........

There's no law saying that I have to put all of my money in the bank and then take it back out again, you know. In fact, there's even a tick box on the return for those like me who do their accounts on a "Cash basis" - which they say means cash in - expenses out etc. I keep very up to date and accurate records for Inland Revenue.

Why do people think that if you get paid cash for a job it makes you dodgy?! It's declaring it that's important.

I never thought anything dodgy

Merely stated a fact

They, HMRC, are actively monitoring places like as this, Facebook and LinkedIn etc and are undertaking a lot more spot checks because they themselves are under pressure with Osbornes targets looming down on them

The Bootle mafia find their targets online

For epos Windows XP embedded was the defacto OS and in all fairness it is still the best option but more and more Windows 7 is being used. I work with lots of major retailers and their epos systems and thankfully none use any pre XP
