I went to this last year and totally loved it, just the police spoiled it by not letting you have a beer out side the pubs while watching.

Get there early for a close up in the market square.

And it will be televised so you can get yourself on the box....

Bike Race this evening. Anybody know the route? I would like to watch it from near a bend next to a pub. A pint and a spill.

The PandA could be the spot you're looking for.

Thanks I used to go and watch the racing in Newport. Lots of action at the bends with racers falling off !

If i could go that's where i was planning to watch it - upstairs window over-looking two tight bends, spill potential high.

Two tight bends?

I thought it was an all male race

Yep, excellent evenings entertainment - fast and furious sums it up, especially the guys upfront.
There was a spill apparently but I didn't see it - not that I went for the spills of course !

Watched a few whizzing past from the safety of The Water Mill bar, quite a few punters were taking their drinks outside with no problems.
Managed to meet another forumite too.

I don't know about the rest of the forum users, but for me, the town centre drinking ban is a stupid draconian measure that spoils so many events. No mulled wine at the Christmas light switch on/fireworks is just a travesty for example. This town is not some rough hell hole, so I'm fairly sure there wouldn't be a huge upturn in street drinking and bum fights.
