Morning all,

My trusty steed is giving me trouble on my commute to work and I need to get it looked at.

Can anyone recommend a decent bike repair shop in Stafford.

My bike is worth a fair whack (not a cheap jobbie) so I need someone who will be gentle with it :)

Cheers

I have a friend who is a quailifed motorcycle mechanic and she is very resonable.

She works from home and her name is Pippa. 07792090842. Just mention my name which is Jax.

Sorry Scuttlingb, should have said, this is a mountain bike, not a motorbike...

cat_woman, is Chells a motorbike place too?

Anyway as it happens, I e-mailed back 2 bikes this afternoon and got a fast and very helpful response.

I had heard of this place before, but though that having experience of working with old and knackered bikes they get donated, they might not be able to work with my machine....

Anyway they said that they have experience of working with all types of bikes, some worth a lot more than mine. They offered to have a look and quote and even said I could fix it myself in their workshop using their tools and guidance... what TOP SERVICE!!! Will definately be down there as soon as I get chance to meet the guys!

If you want the best service in town then probably Henry Burtons on Mill Bank (round the corner from the old post office) but if you can travel a little way you may be better going to Mammoth Cycles which is in Milford (on the left before you get to Milford common from Stafford) or even Swinnertons up at Birchers Valley on Cannock Chase. Burtons is often hard to get a service slot at unless you bought your bike from them, Mammoth is much more of a MTB specialist as is Swinnertons but I'm not sure how they run servicing as they are turning round hire bikes all the time. Other options would be Aztec Cycles on Forgate Street who should do a good but cheaper service, Halfords (if you dare) or Back-2-Bikes (behind MFI) but they are mainly volunteers and re-use bits - probably won't give the sort of full service you are after.

Cheers Doctor... see above for my comments on Back 2 Bikes....

Have been in Aztec Cycles once before but wasn't too impressed, was a bit of a tip and there was just something about the guy that I wasn't keen on. I'm sure he is fine and his service is great but don't think its for me.

Have heard bad things about Halfords so unless someone was willing to say that this one is good (because some of them are) then wouldn't risk that either.

Not heard of Henry Burtons but will check them out.

The problem with Mammoth and Swinnertons is the distance getting to them as I don't have access to a car (or not one that the GF would let me put my bike in anyway).

Whatever you do DONT GO TO HALFORDS

I bought a brand new bike from their - which they assembled. After about two days, a hurtling to work on the A449 the handlebars came loose.

When I took it back, they said if the screws are not tightened to the same depth they will do ..... !!!

Erm - that wouldnt have helped me if I had fallen off. Luckily I wasnt going that fast.
