Bins

Do I expect too much in life ? in my youth binmen lifted the ash cans and emptied them. If they spilled anything then the shovel and brush came out. As I get older do I hark back to an age that really did not exist? We gladly gave them a tip at Xmas. Or is it health and safety gone mad?

That was then - this is now. Do not confuse bureaucratic excuses for slovenly laziness with health and safety.

I looked after an empty house for a while, where an old dear had died and eventually her son cleared it out to sell it. The bin hadn't been out for six months, but they still wouldn't take because the lid 'was not closed' - I measured it and it was open by a full 35 millimetres - shocking. No tip that year.

That's what we refer to as a smirking bin. Occassionally you can get away with it, but not a laughing out loud bin, and certainly not one that's laughing it head off.

Someone left several bags of rubbish and a toaster in my bin last night. If I ever find out who it was, they'll end up in a f*king bin bag. (Shallow Grave's a great film, you know. :) )

I just dumped all our recycling in bags next to the blue bin, will see if they take it. Didn't help that it was both xmas and house moving stuff I had to get rid of!

They emptied both blue and brown bins. As the blue bin was full, xmas etc missed collection I left the caddy. I guess they have orders not to empty these if left by the bin. You would have thought that a little common sense would prevail and they would have cleared everything.
whilst i completely agree with you (i.e. common sense should have been used or, failing that, they should have just collected anything & everything within reason due to the recent collection problems), the did send out a leaflet clearly saying that people should not leave the caddy out as it would not be collected if it was, but they were willing to collect up to 2 additional bags of refuse if it was left out with the bin..

i'm pretty sure it was a leaflet.. maybe it was in the paper.. whatev's, i defo read it somewhere lol..

So what do I do throw all my papers in the green bin for next week? I guess recycling has been down due to bins not emptied for at least a week and people thinking blue one is full in the green! Could we blame people no. If Stafford wants an effective and efficient recycling system it needs to do more. They always talk about recycling on the continent where they recycle more but they often do weekly collections.
yeah, i just put all my rubbish (recyclable or not) in the green bin while i waited for the blue bin to be collected.. i would imagine many others did the same thing!

My green bin is now nearly full to the top,but enough space on top for just a bit more ,until next monday, and the lid closes properly.

This morning the lid was raised up and on investigating I found someone had dumped a big bag of chips inside.

Soon came back out again and slung into the next bin which is overflowing with dirty nappies

Some one that lives round the corner put their rubbish in our caddy after it had been emptied!

I know it was them as there were lots & lots of bills and stuff that hadn't been shredded with their name and address and all kind of details over complete with cardboard and plastic. It's a good job we had had ours collected otherwise the bin wouldn't have been emptied.

I felt like posting it through their letter box but couldn't be faffed with falling out with them, but i was pretty narked about it. I suppose I'll advise them to invest in a shredder rather than ignore it totally.

We had our recycling bin refused once because someone threw half a kebab in the caddy on their way home!
