Black and white cat Baswich query

Hi, I am posting this because a lovely little black and white female ( we think) cat has been visiting me every day for a couple of weeks and I just wondered if anybody knows where she lives. She seems quite young, with a little white moustache, white v neck and belly, and white paws. She has a very distinctive way of lifting her paws very delicately. I always like to see her but am a bit worried that she is here so much in case her owners worry about her. We don't feed her, but every time we go to open the back or front door she seems to be there and runs in. Obviously we don't wish to be known as the cat nappers of Baswich so it would be good just to know she does have a home and that I don't need to worry about her. She looks extremely well cared for and well fed to me, so I am sure she does have a loving home. We live in the Baswich Crest/ Witney Road area, which is where she seems to come from. If it is your cat and you would rather I put her out whenever she comes in then I would respect that of course. Thanks if anyone can help.

I am just slightly worried that the owner might not like me plastering its photo onto the internet, but I will do if my detective work turns up no info :)

Is there a collar? Perhaps attach a note explaining your concerns and see if a message comes back.

Good fun pretending to be a secret agent, if nothing else...

No collar on her, but yes I did consider attaching a note to her via some sort of collar. :) then I had the alarming thought she might get it caught on a tree before she reached home. I would obviously never forgive myself for that! She was in here a lot when all the fireworks were going off, i was so torn because I worried that her owners would worry where she was, but the noises were like bombs going off and I just couldn't leave her out.
What do you all think about me following her home some time? It might involve a bit of climbing, and trespassing, and walking along fences but I might be up for that :)

I must stress, I am not concerned for her well being because as I mentioned she looks in great shape and well cared for. But I had a sudden thought (I do a lot of thinking in the middle of the night) that if I was to go on holiday...what if, what if she doesn't have a home and anything happens to her. Mad in a way I know, but something to keep me awake at night for sure.

Some cats are just a bit like that - get a neighbour to cover for you.

Do you remember the white cat that used to hang around the long bridge the other side of the canal - about five or six years ago? Great chap, really understood inter-species communication - often sprinted across to get a lift on my bike to the far side and then walk back...

I don't remember him- I am a bit short sighted though, so maybe he was in my blind spot :) lovely about him getting a lift on your bike- it wasn't a tandem was it, now that would have been worth seeing

No, standard bike, he used to sit on the crossbar and pretend to steer.

Just making the point that some cats do really understand just how easy some humans are to manipulate...

Oh I know I am being manipulated. I had my own dear cat for 18 and a half years and I was his devoted slave. He only passed away a few weeks ago, right before this little cat decided to run into my house.

Thanks for the replies, and the ideas. I think asking one of my friends to pop round every now and again when I go on holiday, to check the cat is not stretched out on the step with its feeble paw desperately tapping on the glass of the door, is a really good idea and will put my mind at rest

my advice: get a safety collar from pets at home and one of those barrel things which you can put a note inside. write a note to the owner, put the collar on the cat and see what happens! if you try to follow it home it might know you're there and not go or go to some strange place. if you just act as normal and give it a collar shes sure to go home (the safety ones have a big locking mechanism which comes apart VERY easily if they should get stuck - one of my cats regularly comes home without a collar and it appears on my doormat a few days later from a kind neighbour!)

sounds like a lovely little lady! but yes I'm sure her owners would have been worrying about her with the fireworks!

Excellent idea thanks for that. I didn't think of safety collars. I will see how it goes over the next few days and if she is still turning up all the time I will try that. Just hope the owner doesn't think I am an interfering busybody, I just want to make sure they know where she has been going.

Btw I was joking really about following it home. It would involve scaling fences, and I really feel a bit old for that sort of exertion :)

I would hope that you're safe from such a response. I did ring the white cat's 'owner' when I first met him, as he looked really young to be so far away from home. She said that she was getting two or three calls a week, but wasn't at all annoyed by it.

I am very disappointed. I was looking forward to the video.

:D thanks again to all of you. I feel I will sleep easier tonight now. I also think I will have to be absolutely firm and make sure she is not let in when it is even starting to get dusky out, to encourage her to return home to safety, although how I am going to police that is anyone's guess because she comes racing in whenever any door is opened. I might have to employ some kindly retired bouncers or something who can man every door and will gently shoo her on her way. It's a funny old world.
