Why do we worry so much about MOT tests when we know that everything is more or less OK?

Why do we worry so much about MOT tests when know that everything is more or less OK?

I do sod all maintenance on my car yet every year it passes
The last one with no advisories.
Some folks treat them like royalty and bling them out but as long as mine gets me to the supermarket and back it's all good.
Not even washed it since I had it.

Prefer my tech to be honest , now that stuff I do look after

I just find them to be a faff. Got one coming up next month too... only found out after the service (free... I’d never service a car if I didn’t have to, especially a bloody EV) that Nissan will collect and drop off so think I’ll do that this time.
