brazing steel tubes into a bike frameset?

Hi All,

Anybody else interested in designing and building a bike frameset from
a bunch of steel tubes?

I am starting this thread to gather thoughts and opinions on whether there are people
out there with the skills equipment and inclination to show others.

Also, does Stafford have the this kind of facilities for a fast learner?

Thanks for your thoughts and apologies if I am still dreaming after the eclipse,
Mac.

Henry Burton (Mill Street) build their own frames - not sure they'd let any old Tom, Dick or McGyver use their stuff but would be a place to start enquiries.

Hi, Withnail, thanks for your reply. Yes, I have tried Henry Burton but in no way they build frames. I asked them after seeing a couple of frames with their decal knocking around Stafford.

Brian Rourke in Stoke is a solid framebuilder but, understandably, he is not going to let a skilful, mechanically oriented wizard like McGyver to tinker around the workshop.

Thanks for your comments.
I am approaching brazing or tig welding from the perspective of somebody wanting
to learn the process of joining 11 pipes together into a rideable bike frameset.

A business focused on profit with safety regulations to observe is rarely the right place for that purpose.

Ergo the main question remains: Is there a charitable soul out there with the skills,
brazing equipment and inclination to show the process? Of course, expenses would be duly paid.

Thanks!

You can braze with Propane and Oxygen both available on the market you'll find the Torch they come with sets of different size tips, on the internet
Along with the filler rods both types fluxed and none fluxed of course none fluxed rods will require you to buy a tin of flux
But for the small amount of brazing you'll be doing imo the flux coated rods would fit the bill

You seem like a handy guy for DIY projects.
Do you have the equipment, the place and the time to let another being
practice brazing joints?

many thanks for your reply,
Your soon welder ;)
