I'm really interested in local history, and living in Castletown I'm lucky enough to have both Stafford Castle and Broadeye Windmill within spitting distance. It was good to read a couple of days ago that the castle will be having in the region of £100k spent on redevelopments, primarily making the motorway-facing side more aesthetically pleasing. I've spent quite a lot of time up at the castle; Stafford Music Festival, Shakespeare, watching the fireworks across the whole of the town, general picnics/kite flying/walks, but Broadeye Windmill is more of an unknown quantity.
Having lived in Holland a few years ago i got quite used to seeing beautiful, ornately decorated windmills every couple of miles, yet it's pretty rare to have one just round the corner in England! Anyway, as part of National Mills Weekend the public have an opportunity to have a look inside a building that had been an integral part of the community since the late 18th century. I can't remember the exact times that it's open, but i think it was 9-6ish. You can get more info on Broadeye Windmill HERE
