Wanted Cable drum

Does anyone know where I could pick up one of those big wooden cable drums. About three or four foot across when lying on it's side?

There used to be a pile of them at the railway sidings, off the Wolverhampton Road, Stafford.

I don't know how you would go about acquiring one. Maybe a quiet word to the right person. I've seen plenty on ebay too.

There's a lot of rail work going on round here - I have asked and got this reply -

It's mostly the cheaper ply wood ones we use theses days , I have seen some empty proper ones around but their a bit battered I'll have a look Funny but your not the first ask about these lately including the misses

They tell me there's a big deposit on those drums but i did mange to get one off a very nice chap from Western Power made a great roundabout for the grand kids

Drove past the old police site up Wildwood yesterday, there's 1 of them big drums on there. Shame it's in full view of the main road tho.
