Can You Advise What Type of Filler To Use?

I have a hardwood door frame that is joined on to a further recessed MDF frame. Both the wood and MDF have not been painted on yet, but I've noticed that where it's been filled, there are still several thin (1 to 2mm) distinct gaps.

I've looked on the 'net but can't seem to find a a clear answer as what's best to use. The two options I've seen crop up quite often are wood filler (2 part seems to be popular) and decorator's caulk. However, I have read that caulk seems to be prone to shrinkage.

Any advice, folks? Cheers.

Is the door fully internal - or external on one side? If there are humidity change issues, then caulk can be a little 'brittle'. A more tenacious, flexible filler would be better - but do consider the paintability, if that is going to happen - i.e., avoid silicone.

That looks plausible - filling when things are dry is a good idea - compressing the filler with humidity changes will be better than stretching it,

Might be easier said than done at the moment, though.

For anybody else that might be even remotely 'interested', I've been reading up a bit and have come across a large number of websites where people recommend using Isopon P38 - car body filler. So I think I might just give that a go..

Don't get hooked on the smell of it.
