Can you burn cardboard on a log burner?

We have a log burner (just logs, not multi fuel) and i wondered if it was ok to burn some cardboard on it.

We have the builders in at the moment and lots of stuff is being delivered in very thick cardboard packaging which is being recycled.

I just wondered whether it could go on the log burner?

I have to admit I do put the occasion piece of tissue or bits of paper on mine but I haven't burnt anything in bulk other than logs, I guess if you have the chimney swept regularly ( reminds me need to sort that ) then it should be okay,

I'm not sure it would burn well, reams of paper don't. You could always rip it up and mix with your compost.

You'll generate a lot of ash for little heat and may find yourself constantly raking and emptying. So, in short if you've plenty of time on your hands and just wanted to get rid of the cardboard yes. If you're looking at it as a source of fuel I'd say no.

You can soake it in water for 24 hours then place it in a log maker and squeeze all the water out. you are then left with a solid block which will give out mutch more heat and burn for longer

People have been known to exit the Tip with useful-looking items that they didn't take in.....
At Cannocks tip they have a recycling center part - people take stuff that they don't want anymore but is still useful & its sold at a minimum with the proceeds going to charity, I bought some nice paper blinds there for a pound, they were brand new & had never been out of the box...

Ahhhhhhhhh

I was a bit slow the the other day too

Saw a lady chuck a beautiful child's size mini car into household waste. It was immaculate

I went to stop her and she turned to me just as the motor left her hands

I'd already decided to give to the first not wealthy looking young family I saw on my way back to 'The Heights '

The blue bin man will take it. You might have to catch them in person although I seem to remember they will take recyling that won;t fit in the bin

Yes ours do take extras (they did last week).

Its just that there was so much of it, and its not blue bin day until a week on Tues and I couldn't bear it hanging around that long. (I'm not very good with mess, I like it all gone, out of the way. ) I have probably got OCD but thats another topic for another day.

If there is loads I usually take it to Wildwood as I go past most days, and that indeed is what I did today so most of it has gone now. Just another load and that should clear it.

I just had an idea that I could burn it and save on logs but as @Trumpet says, I probably wouldn't get much heat for the effort involved.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

If you see a fat bald bloke with an old Mercedes full of tat don't forget to flick the V's at me will you

I love going to the tip

Am I mad

No, I quite like going to the tip too. Its that lovely feeling that you get when the mess has gone.
I do prefer Cannock tip to Stafford though.

Were you the girl with the pretty knees?
No I was the one debating whether I could fit my car in the tiny space left from the merc parked over two spaces then decided if I tried to squeeze out my car I wouldn't have pretty knees no more !
