Nothing to do with Stafford booty, but an auction took place near to my parents recently at Portsmouth, where a lady sold a set of 8 or 9 small prints which she had bought at a car boot sale for £30. The auctionners estimate was £80 to £120 for the complete lot.
They went for £68,000!
Wouldn't it be nice for one of us to stumble on a bargain like THAT locally?

They might have been 'real' - they had the frames with them, that would usually be left in place if they were 'liberated'...

Well, I managed to actually make it down there this morning for the first time this year. It was 9 am and there was 4 rows in the back field because of the circus. I thought it had gotten much bigger than this, but maybe I was expecting too much this early on in the year?

Oooh - he is one of my favourite authors, never wrote the same book twice - I'm slowly picking them up - I even found some Czech translations of the wartime radio talks in a second-hand bookstall in Masarykovo station in Prague - when you see the lad, ask him if he's aware of those....
I first came across him when Private Angelo was serialised on the radio - I imagine that it was the source for Captain Corelli....
