Car parking Beware - New ANPR cameras in ASDA and Tesco

Me and t'mother have been saying for years about the general mentality of some folk around here... For example, we have come to the conclusion that if you're in a car at a junction on a busy road and someone slows down to let you out, they're not from these parts! And don't get me started on Christmas shopping.
That is soooo so true

i think this is fine, 2 hours is plenty, i hope Sainsburys put this in force so i don't have to scramble around for change to park on their car park any longer

...and i'm overjoyed to know Asda are implenting this in regards the 'trade only' route into Asda, who do some people think they are?!

Rules are rules people.

Sainsburys car park is Stafford Borough Council-controlled which is why you have to buy a ticket to display in your vehicle window. Asda and Tesco aren't. That is why you will get a parking ticket at Sainsburys if you overstay your pre-paid time. Personally I think it should be a pay-on-exit car park. Sainsburys give you the cost of two hours parking back when you spend over £5 in-store to encourage you to actually use their shop.

And I think that two hours is not necessarily long enough to complete a shopping trip.

2 hours shopping in either Asda or Tescos is plenty, anything over 2 hours, well it's time to get a life i'd say!
Someone here must agree with that, anyone?

While i'm here, i may aswell say, over weekends all car parks (whomever's incharge of them) in town centres should be free of charge, all year round... phew, that's better!

If you forget something, do NOT be tempted to return to the same supermarket. My friends live on the route to Asda and treat(ed) it a bit like their corner shop. The husband works shifts. He dropped in to Asda early in the morning to get some fruit to take into work. Later that day he went home, got changed and then nipped back to Asda to get some stuff for tea. They got a bill for £60 because the equipment/operator had only spotted the early morning arrival and the departure at the end of the day. Fortunately, they could prove where he'd been all day and I drafted an appropriately huffy letter for them. Eventually, the company backed down but unless you can provide hard evidence as to where you and your vehicle have been in the meantime, think twice before you go back to Asda or Tesco on the same day. For £60, Fortnum & Mason would probably deliver whatever you need by unicorn.

Some of them have a 'no return' clause to avoid this situation. A chap was charged by Tesco a few years ago for returning with a faulty television because he came back in the same vehicle, although he managed to get it withdrawn.

Wickes/Curry's/Lidl, used to have a 'no-return' clause, but it's not mentioned on the new signs.
This is the old sign.

There's always the possibility of using a family vehicle which has been parked there by somebody else, earlier in the day, unknown to the current driver.

I have a friend, and know of at least two other people, that takes their elderly disabled mother to Asda once a week to do shopping. By the time they have gone round the shop and bought all they need, then gone to the cafe for a spot of lunch you're looking at three hours, sometimes more, especially at this time of year. Luckily, Asda has her car registration on an ignore list, so she doesn't get sent any tickets.

Really, where does it say this....?

And do you mean they are stopping people using the trade only route? Or just extending the cameras around there to catch people staying over two hours?

There already are cameras on the "delivery only" route.

Friend of mine I work with drops his wife at Asda early every morning so she can walk over to work - there literally 5 minutes then drives into work. Then on the evening on a Wednesday he'll go back over for "big shop" night - which takes him less than an hour.

Sure enough the other week he received a fine through the post saying his car had been there all day - the cameras had obviously missed him going out and coming back in

When I worked in Market Harborough the Sainsbugs car park, also council owned, had a short stay section big enough for about 20 or so cars. There was no charge and a 20 minute limit, ideal for nipping in to pick up a sandwhich or whatever on the way to the office.
Think it would work well in Stafford.

They have had cameras on that entrance ever since they started the ANPR business.

As for it being a 'trade only' route that is incorrect. It is trade only if you continue to follow the road to the back of the Asda complex. If you turn first right to go onto the car park then that is fine, it is intended to be an alternative entry. It is not however, intended to be an alternative exit, except for 'trade' traffic that have accessed the back of the supermarket.

Short stay car parking is frowned upon in Stafford. That's why the Revenue Generators, sorry Parking Enforcement Officers, are always patrolling up and down Eastgate Street and other free spots. The Council would rather you pay.

Traffic wardens only generate income because drivers are stupid. If people parked properly then there would be no need for traffic wardens. It disappoints me that the Councils pay little attention to pavement parking which they have powers to tackle and which would undoubtedly bring in a few quid because of people's inconsiderate anti social parking.

Rather a difficult tightrope to walk, when they've made it compulsory on Corporation Street...?

Perhaps best to just ignore it all...?

Indeed, mandating pavement parking down there doesn't help. Nevertheless pavement parking in general needs tackling, it beats me that people who do it cannot comprehend how idiotic and inconsiderate their parking is for pedestrians.
