Can't see the appeal of toyota at all.

Sure they're well built, reliable and generally good cars. But soooooo dull!

I appreciate that the idea of never going over 1400 rpm and no jack rabbit starts is abhorrent to you Shoes as it is to me buddy.

I hope your real car gets sorted out soon and you can get back to driving in a thoroughly unchristian fashion.
I experimented with this - if the on board computer is to be believed the efficiency is split down as follows:

2-3k Most efficient
3-4k Second
4-5k Third
1-2k Fourth
5-6k Least

Yes - 1 -2 k is marginally more efficient that hitting the red line. Taking into account that at 1 - 2k the throttle is hard down as the engine (like most petrols) has no oomph here. The short gears may be as a result of this economy coefficient.

I drive quite economically normally, I have to cover a lot of miles for work and fuel isn't cheap so I try to keep the mpg's above 40 - normally manage 40 - 41 average over a whole tank (〜425 miles) in the fucus. The fucus wakes up at 3200-3500 rpm though, whereas the astra continues to be disappointing throughout the rev range. perhaps there is an 8v and 16v derivative and i have the 8v one?

A case of be careful what you wish for :D
Haha, I told them I wanted an alfa giulietta - i think the chances of that are significantly less than zero!
Yeah they do look like a nice car :)
Test drove the 2.0 JDTM 170 BHP this evening. Excellent drive, fantastic amount of power on hand with a switch to give you even more.

Very satisfying drive, and built to the highest standard - great material selection.

Insurance group 15 Shoes, I hope someone else is paying the bill for it. One years no claims is going to cripple you with that.

we'll see - insurance is not tooo bad on it, and it all depends on whether i can do a deal to get the car

it's a stunning drive though - love the DNA switch :D

The ST220 is Grp 16 to put it into perspective. It needs to be a stunning drive, and I'd want Uma Thurman as standard equipment as well.

Hahaha :D That would be awesome! It was a stunning drive though, the whole car is very stable and really bites in the corners - i couldn't find the limit with the rep in the passenger seat but I was pushing it quite hard - the car lapped it up!

Anyway, it's 2011. Where are all the monorails and hover cars?

Many cars had overdrive before then though. Moving to front wheel drive made overdrive a thing of the past though.

We have previously discussed this - for those that may have missed it.

Diesel is the new petrol.
Disagree..... It's fine if you are a sales rep doing lots of m'way miles but around town it's not that good economy wise...... and let's face it, the only reason anyone chooses diesel is for the economy cos it's not exactly an enjoyable drive!

I was very anti diesel for years, mates all raved about it and last year I did buy my first ever diesel car....kept it 7 months and got rid. Economy was only a bit better and I hated driving it. Changed back to petrol now and drive to work happy!!
