unfortunatly it looks like they knew we were in trouble the end of last week and used the 2 day closure to clean the place out.None of us knew what was happening untill we recieved text msg from owners.

Dreadful way of treating the staff. You guys were always excellent. However the food was, to be honest, not so good. Not eaten in there since Jan when we had to send back 2 salads! If you cant get salads right, what hope is there?

Simple truth was, it was too expensive for the quality delivered. It tried to be a Bunning and Price style place, but me and most of my friends continued driving to the Fox at Newport rather than Chambers.

The minute you guys started doing theme nights and carvery I feared the writing was on the wall!

Shame really. Such promise!

The usual form is for it to now convert to a ' high class indian restaurant '

Which then closes after twelve months

Followed closely by a new nite klub

And then it just sits vacant until the lease is reduced and it becomes an artists co op

So, from one bad meal, which was a frickin salad, you decided their food was bad? Lots of folks have had really excellent meals in there, and a salad is probably the easiest thing to get wrong, especially when you consider that a salad one person would find delicious, another would barf at the first bite...

As to expensive, it was no more expensive than any other gastropub in Stafford. Maybe you are just a cheap sod who expects too much for the tiny amount they wish to pay? Perhaps you would prefer McDonalds?

The food was good, the prices were fine, the service was excellent, and dare I say it, the female staff were certainly easy on the eyes, and not the young kids you see working in many pubs. It was nice to be served by ADULTS for a change. lol

A message to the staff: You guys did a good job in there from my brief experience. You didn't deserve to be dismissed in such circumstances, and I wish you all the best in finding new jobs.

LOL - I went in there the first day it opened and ate there many times. Over time the food definitely went downhill. As did the menu and stuff on it. The menu that was first served was very different to the one that we last saw in January. The salad incident was the straw that broke the camel's back as it were.

Cheap Sod? You really don't know me. My point was, the food at The Sun was better and cheaper. The food at The Fox was miles better at the same prices. It's been pointed out on this forum before that there is nowhere really good to eat in Stafford, so in that regards, Chambers was not especially worse then anywhere else.

It should have been much, much better. My view is shared by many people I have met who appreciate good food. Sadly, Chambers lost their way. It's my opinion and calling me a cheap sod is really not necessary now is it?

gutted!

Chambers was in my Power5!!

Looks like Ye Olde Post Office will cater for us Chambers fans and it's a damn shame to say it but, i fear it will end up like Chambers - great place to eat and drink but still fails - like a few have mentioned.

How do the people going in to this business sleep at night, what i mean is, money spent on these places only to be kicked in the balls and have to close?

Another (and blooming lovely) building empty for 5-10 years then eh.

I gotta admit Stafford seems to be a 'fill your face but forget to brush your teeth' type place in recent years and we all know what happens there, if you don't look after your pearly whites, it's a case of not just your face never looking the same, but you won't be able to eat properly no more!

...some wisdom in that somewhere, if you look hard enough

A few posts under my belt
Hi everyone

Being one of the directors of Chambers, I felt it my duty to respond to some of the threads on this site

Firstly my co director and I are devastated about having to close Chambers but after failed negotiations with the
landlord to give us some breathing space after some very poor trading weeks, we were left in no other position but to call
in the administrative recievers over the weekend. We have explored every avenue to continue trading and done everything in
our powers to safeguard the jobs of our staff

We had indeed arranged to close Chambers on Monday and Tuesday of this week for the re-decoration jobs as we posted, however
a short and terse email from the landlords which we recieved outside office hours on Friday night meant that we spent the weekend
looking at all options only for us to come to the painful decision on Sunday to close the business and cancel these plans

With regard to how we notified the staff we had little time to inform them any other way. Individual letters would not have been received
in sufficient time and individual phone calls to over 16 staff would have meant that with today's social networking some staff would
have heard off others before we could notify them personally. We are in the process of speaking to each and everyone of them personally
and will keep them totally updated of the situation.

I am sure that there are many on this site who understand how business works but clearly from some of the threads there are those that
don't and that is fine but these people must understand that not everything is black and white. Anyone who wishes to discuss any of these
issues, please leave a message and we will be more than happy to discuss and meet in person if required. We are not faceless characters
hiding behind recievership.

We would like to issue a big statement of thanks to everyone who has supported Chambers over our twelve months of trading. We have endeavoured
to bring something to the town that we were proud of and which would benefit the residents of Stafford but unfortunatley our plans have not
in many respects been fulfilled

I will be monitoring any new posts and will respond accordingly

Thank you

Although the directors/owners are culpable for how the business runs, don't forget that they do not cook the food, they employ a team of proffesional chefs on good money
to do this on their behalf..............any failings ???????????

Well I am not alone in the view that your chefs either changed, or stop paying sufficient care. Your front of house guys were always superb and everything about the place should have made it excellent. I know you were going for a Bunning and Price feel (the original menu was almost identical, right down to the font!), but the quality of food was just not good enough. I guess that's what annoys me, it should have been much, much better and I was overjoyed when you opened (you were pretty much my local back then),

At the end of the day, for quality and off the top of my head The Fox, The Shropshire, The Swan with 2 Necks, The Star at Copmere, The Hollybush at Salt and the Greyhound in Yarlet all served better quality food.

It's a terrible shame though as I loved the place and continued to drink there (if not eat)....I wish you the best of luck in your next endeavour, whatever that may be.

I always enjoyed the food when I ate there, although I haven't for a good 6 months at least. Certainly one of the better places in town anyway. Those that didn't like their food, did you tell the staff? Its hard to know what people think without feedback.

They should have kept it as a student pub as was the Hogs Head catering for the college kids, make it as stafford college su bar or something.

In a listed building?

There is no future in a 99 p bar

Doesn't have to be cheap drinks, just not that expensive. Few pool tables, standard meals, few games machines, job done.
