Changes at the Guildhall.

The last time I went to see the lights switch on, I got burnt on my hand by a firework. I prefer to walk thru the town after the fuss has died down now

I bet one of them is *Hawkins Bazaar.....I went into the one in Telford today & then remembered that we usually get one in the Guildhall near to Christmas....

*other Christmas tat shops are available...

Lol, these will be permanent shops.
I've heard a rumour of a cook shop as well as an upmarket- ish clothes shop.
We shall just have to wait and see

They wouldn't let Hawkins have a permanent contact at the time, even they they desperately tried, so I doubt they will be back.

I was in Telford today. Was surprised just how busy it was, especially compared to Stafford.

Not surprised to hear it. You can easily get to the shopping centre in Telford to spend your money. Alas in Stafford it's not that straightforward.

The recent road improvements are great, always thought the one-way system odd. Their layout is far superior to stafford too, Stafford seems so miss matched, and as for our road system!

But visiting Telford from the south of town also highlights Stafford's Road problems, as one has to head into town and out on the Newport Rd, which should be fun when the western access rid opens.
(OK, if your a local, you'd probably go Through Highfields or Western Downs)

Enjoying a drop of red.
Pity we can't get BHS into the guildhall!
I think to get a store like that into that part of town would require the BC and developers to grasp the nettle and demolish what was the Coop department store and its affiliated shops/precinct and build something suitable for 21st century shopping. The Guildhall is far too small for a large department store.

Would make a good apartment block

It was horribly busy - almost as bad as Christmas time already...
I went on Thursday. We arrived about 11:30 and stayed about 3 hours and it was fine. Not overly busy at all.

As regards our route, from Baswich we took the back roads to Penkridge and then the A5 there and the motorway back. No problems with traffic either.

Husband works in retail & has weekdays off, so we only usually go shopping in the week when its nice & quiet......Saturday shopping in the run-up to Christmas is one of my worst nightmares!

not quiet in holiday weeks, term time way quieter than holiday weekdays, at least in 'north' end of town

Really?

I'm afraid at the moment the whole traffic scenario is a nightmare in Stafford and I am sure the shops are all suffering. Lifting the roadworks at the end of November as a sop to the businesses will be of no use at all if everyone has already done their shopping at places you can actually get to.
