Exactly, they're only in the ground by about 4" and all aluminium.cookie_monster said:not being funny, but those shelters dont really look very sturdy and im guessing the bus that clipped it cant have been going exactly fast so it would seem to highlight quite how rubbish they are!

Scuttlingb said:Well, it was a bus. The low down on the whole story is that the bus stops along that section are TOO close to the edge of the road. This is the 6th time that this shelter has been hit. The police are launching an investigation as to why they were erected so close to the kerb.
LOL... Bus shelters don't just pop up on their own! Trees grow wherever they like (unless someone planted them - and even then I imagine it's difficult to place the tree exactly)...wildwood said:So it's the big 10 foot high inanimate object that's been there a few years at fault then and not the bus driver?
Next time someone crashes into a tree on a lane I can see..... "Tree grown too close to road" story.... yeah right!
Got it in ONE. In order to get close enough to the kerb to pick up the passengers when you come in at a tight angle you need to overhang the kerb and if the shelters are too close then this is the result. Granted that the majority of drivers manage this without any problem now and again the angle is just too steep and the bus stop gets it. This particular stop has only been there for about 6 months to replace the last one that was knocked down. The overhang on the top of the shelter is what the bus catches because you're watching the kerb. It's all very complicatedhenryscat said:I guess the issue is that buses have a considerable front over-hang, and if approaching the kerb at the stop at a sharp angle, the front of the bus might swing over the kerb at the point just before the bus is straightened parallel to the kerb.
Well, they wouldn't get them stuck under any bridges!Edd209 said:wonder what would happen if they introduced double deckers back in stafford?
