Chinese food in Stafford

Following on from the talk about Indian food can anyone recommend a good Chinese? Eat in and/or takeaway. Tried a few but not found a really good one yet.

Well Essence of the Orient, expensive, but very nice and brilliant service. Not everyones cup of tea.

Take away wise, we always use Fountain House on the Newport Road. Lovely curries and pretty damn quick delivery. I think we must be one of their best customers!

If you're going to spend the coin in the Essence of the Orient, I recommend giving it a miss and going to the Royal Bangkok on Mill Bank. Although it is not a Chinese, the food & service is top notch and prices are on a par with the Essence. Royal Bangkok is the best restaurant in Stafford full stop....Their Tom Yam soup is the business.

For take away got to be Golden Gate. I order my food then dodge in the Waggon for a couple of bottles of dog while I wait.

For take out, I went through a phase of practically living off of the vegetable vermicelli from Hong Kong House. Hmmm, spicey.

Best take out in my experience, Tiger Bowl. Yum - and free goodies too. I haven't had one for ages. Assuming they are still about, that's the catering for my Saturday night arranged :)

My mate and I went there not that long ago and he was very impressed. He later went to a swish new Thai restarant in Liverpool and delighted in telling his mates he's had much better Thai food in 'provincial' Stafford.

I'm not sure I've had a bad Chinese really in Staffs - I think my nearest is Fortune City and if I recall that's ok.

Has anyone been to the Inn Dragon next to the Cinema? That looks quite nice. Am I right in thinking it used to be a mexican restuarant?

Which one is Fortune City?
Not tried Inn Dragon yet, its been a few things over the last couple of years.

I feel the Chinese take out equivalent of a pub crawl coming on. :munch:

Fung's is good for Chow Mein connoisseurs who approve of the use of the peas. (Is it me or is this like marmite - you either love or hate peas in yer noodles?)

Isn't Fortune City the one across from the Tap and Spile? If so, they officially do the reddest chinese curry in the area (or used to anyhow).

Yeah - that's one. Sometime you just have to go with the obscene use of food colouring!!

I got a bit spoilt by Chinese in Liverpool and my blokies not much of a fan so it's fairly low on the list on take-aways after Pizza, Indian and Fish and Chips.

Actually, since we moved to Staffs last month we haven't had a single take-away, not even a bag of chips. This is some kind of record I'm sure!!

I've been living off of those Indian take out bags from Asda - just stick them in the ping ping (microwave) and jobs a good en :) And then after a while you realise you are having to breath in to get yer trousers to do up - then you look in the mirror one day and wonder who porky is starting back at you. Whoops a daisy!

Beware of take outs - they make you doughy :(

I've finally been put off of buying these things since I watched 'Wal-Mart - The High Cost of Low Prices'. Wal-Mart are evil beyond belief.

No - they get my back up. Blokie's a veggie and I'm alergic to Black Bean Sauce. They never put a sweet and sour veg one in!!

We went to look at the menu for 5 the other day and it didn't look too inspiring and a bit pricy. One for Parents to pay for I think!

How do you get into the mews alley when the gates are closed anyway?

Who's authority? The owner? Maybe the best restaurant in Gaol Mews.

The Royal Bangkok chefs' attention to detail is second to none. You could almost feel guilty for eating their creativeness. Then again the chef wouldn't be happy if you didn't eat it.

Good looking & pleasant waitresses as well. Adequate wine list & the Thai beer slides down.

Used to always use Good View when I lived on Shrewsbury Road.

Now I mainly use Fountain House (they already know what I want half the time, I guess it must come up from the phoen number!)
If not Fungs, or Golden Gate. Each have their own strengths.

Oh and my parents when to 5 in Gaol Mews, and said it was a bit of a rip off, and poor portions. They definitely wouldn't go again.

The first time I went to 5 I had a great meal, great service, couldn't complain about anything. The second time I went, it was Ok, nothing really bad about it but just Ok. Will go again though.

Maxims Chinese on Mill street is great for take-aways, their house secial spare ribs are lovely and spicy.
