Contractor needed to extend dropped kerb

We have recently applied to Stafford council to get the dropped kerb at the end of our driveway extended.
They have approved this now which is good but we have to find our own contractor that is registered with the council and has the correct liability insurance etc.

I have one quote so far from http://highwaysafetysupplies.co.uk and I was looking to get some more before deciding on who we should go with to carry out the work.

I couldn't find a thread on here where someone has had this done, so has anyone got any experience with this and if so it would be great to find out who you used to do the work etc or any recommendations of companies that can do this?

Thanks in advance.

hi are you sure its not Staffordshire county council? When i obtained consent for my dropped kerb a few years back it was them and they supplied a rather extensive list of approved contractors.

I spent some considerable time going through the list and in the end used Dawkes based in Stafford who were excellent both in terms of the quality of the work, organisation and price and all consents were sorted correctly by them. Hope that helps.

This is something i will be looking into myself.

At the moment though, My wife is waiting on a re-assessment of her Mobility care but once that is cleared we shall either have a disabled parking area outside of the house or a drop curb put in place as i already have an area of space at the front of the house to park.

i was expecting somewhere in the line of £2000 - £3000 for a drop curb install inc all paperwork etc , however i could be way off there so i'd be interested to know costs and timescale too/

Yeah Staffordshire County Council have given us the approval but thats it. According to the FAQ its up to you to find a contractor that meets the specific requirements:
https://www.staffordshire.gov.uk/tr...ked-questions/Frequently-asked-questions.aspx
The council then come out and inspect the work at a later date.

I've already filled in a form on Dawkes' website a few weeks ago, but no one got back me. So I've left a message on their answer phone, hopefully they will get back to me soon. It looks like they are highly regarded on this forum so thanks for the heads up and I'll try and chase them for a response.

We've been quoted £1500 + ~£200 for the permit to work. Along with the ~£100 for the application to the council, its not far off £2000.
I thought the £1500 was a bit steep, as I was expecting nearer £1000. So it would be good to get a couple of quotes to see what the average price is.

There is 3 to be going on with but Dawkes are on the approved schedule of rates for tarmac and are recommended. (Wife deals with this stuff so this has come from her)

I'm looking to buy a property but it may need the kerb dropping at the front to provide access for a drive way....where within the council would I need to look in to this please?

Cheers

Thanks for this. I've just had some spare time to ring around.

For future reference for anyone wanting a dropped kerb here is what the response was from the ones the I contacted:
NOTE, our dropped kerb length will be 2.7 metres.

Dawkes: quoted me the same as above and were busy until August/September!
G Evans: sounds like they don't provide this service anymore
RA Edwards: took down my details and are coming out to our house before sending us a quote

I didn't have a chance to contact Novus.

Hopefully RA Edwards can offer a cheaper quote, otherwise it looks like its going to be almost £2k.

Have you tried GEObuild?
(Sorry, couldn't resist it. I'm surprised no-one beat me to it).

Thanks, I'm still waiting on RA Edwards who said the quote should be with me soon.
I'll give GEObuild a try :)
