Recently a very close friend and neighbour of ours passed away unexpectedly, we were basically family. He died in my arms and I couldn’t save him.Unfortunately he was not in contact with his family. After weeks of us helping the council and corona etc try to find his family they finally found a son. Unfortunately he didn’t want anything to do with it .over the past few weeks we have been assured on multiple occasions that we would be informed of when the funeral would be taking place.my family and myself needed to say our goodbyes. I have also kept in contact with the person from the bereavement service at the council to make sure that I was kept in the loop . I rang up again on Wednesday and was informed that the funeral had already taken place on the Monday. They couldn’t give me an explanation as the why I wasn’t informed . Apparently nobody was.
I feel so hurt. It feels like his life was worth nothing. Everybody deserves a funeral with people who love them there.
I wanted to pay for his funeral, to give him a proper send off but apparently that’s not allowed.
Is this common practice for council funded funeral ?
