Country pub.

A friend and I are going out to lunch tomorrow. We usually meet in town but for a change we fancy a nice country pub. My mind has gone blank on where to go.

Any ideas....we dont really want to travel more than 10 miles.

The Wayfarer? That was the last 'pub you had to drive to' I think I've been to within 10 miles. We've had good experiences at other chef and Brewer pubs but not actually been to The Shire Horse or there's the one before you get the Wyvale Garden Center on the chase that has lots of nice check carpets and looks slightly like a hunting lodge, but it's name escapes me.

We went there about 18 months ago......lovely little place but the food was awful.

Really? Not been in over 2 years but I loved it! That said a simple change of chef can ruin a place, look at Raas Leela :(

EDIT: The Fox at Newport?

Thanks everyone

We keep meaning to go to The Wayfarer I have heard its lovely now they have done it up.

The Dog and Doublet is a favourite of mine but I cant find the menu online...it looks like in the week they only do sandwiches?

Newport a little bit too far.

I have just texted my friend to see if she fancies the Hollybush.

The Wayfarer is part of the Paragon Group three pubs run by a couple of blokes, tuthas are in Castle - the Orange Tree and the Swan with Two Vests in Blackbrook. Tried the Wayf and The Tree and both were fine if you like music played with your nosh

There is no music in Cop Mere because of the witches

The Wolseley Arms is a favourite of ours and we go there often.

Tomorrow we are off to The Holly Bush Inn because until this thread, I forgot it existed and I havent been for about 10 years.

Its funny you should say that....because we went and hated it.

Walked in,..... first impressions not so good but we thought "oh well we are here now"

Now what some people might call "Olde Worlde Charm".....I might call "TATTY".

The carpet was threadbare and REALLY DISTUSTINGLY FILTHLY ..so it worried me what the kitchen was like.

It all looked really tired and neglected.

I do think they are living on past glory.

So the food......

I am quite easy to please and I quickly decided on shepherds pie.

Shirley ummed and aahed and decided she didnt like the menu but decided on a pulled pork bap.

I was ravenous and loved my meal.

Shirley said that her chips had been cooked in really old oil. I didnt notice but I dont have chips often enough to know whats what. I thought they were lovely so perhaps I like old oil.

Shirleys bap was soggy and fatty and she left most of it.

We wont be going back, not just because of the food but its just a bit too old fashioned/dated/jaded for us.

A pic of all the fat from the bap.
