County Council Elections - 4th May

How do I edit this?
They can be both county and borough councillors if they want.

Just think of the expenses claims they can put in...

I seem to recall that when a Parish councillor in the small village where I grew up was elected to the county council it was considered something of a victory in as much as it would curtail the frustration felt locally where the parish council were asked to submit their thoughts on speed limit changes/new housing estates/street lighting/whatever and then roundly ignored...

Really?

Is it a case of "if you want something doing, ask a busy person"
or "money for old rope"
or "a very organised diary" ?

It is actually a case of him grabbing a number of highly paid roles which don't require him to do very much.
'Partner' at HMO will effectively be a consultancy role and not require him to attend the office very often, but will pay a substantial salary.
High Court Enforcement Officer will be a part-time role probably on a freelance basis, where he is called in as and when needed.
Company Secretary of KHH is largely a 'ceremonial role' where accountants and business managers do most of the work and he goes in and signs it off. Likely to be unpaid, but will open door for him in terms of meeting high profile potential clients.
His council role earns him around 16k a year for just attending a few meetings. The 'Leader ' role is, again, largely ceremonial but again increases his public profile and provides access to more high profile potential clients.

A word of warning to anyone away the week before the vote and the week of the vote. Going by what happened to us last June, the council don't do postal votes that far in advance; you'll have to vote by proxy instead.

The previous year we were away the week of the General Election and (in theory) a postal vote was possible, though it still hadn't arrived the Friday before, and wasn't there sat on out doormat when we got back from holiday. In the end we went to the council offices and voted there.

I was not impressed on either occasion.

Had the green party guy round yesterday, was mid skip filling though so busy. Told him he's not a tory so he stands a chance.
Pointless voting for the Green Party anyway, wasted vote.

Unfortunately most people in Stafford do not realise that they don't have to vote for the same person as last time. And so Stafford will remain predominantly Tory so nothing will ever change. Rather like the rest of the country now the Lib-Dooms have gone, UKRAP has all but disbanded and Comrade Corbyn has destroyed the former Labour Party.

1 will your vote affect your life ?
2 will your vote affect other peoples life ?
3 are you putting your X in a certain box because you are convinced that your views are reflected by the government ?
4 none of the above ?.....

Very poorly constructed survey. The three options are not related nor mutually exclusive, a 'no' response to one question does not imply a 'yes' to one, or any, of the others. Similarly, responding 'no' to all questions, including number 4, would be valid, yet not produce any useful information.

Not if everyone does it. I agree about the sheep mentality and the fact that people don't seem to give any thought about the consequences of who they vote in before putting the X in the box - see Cameron and Brexit for exhibit A on that one, but it's not a wasted vote to chose who you want in power on your ballot slip.

There's no point voting. It won't make a difference.

If you don't vote you agree with the majority, and they are generally dicks. If you want party A then vote party A, not party B because you are scared party C will get in otherwise. Some need a push, I understand that, but what better push than to show people today that next time round they will have other likeminded people voting with them?

If you are a wrong lizard voter you are part of the problem.
