This Newsletter article about the recent burglary at the Hospice Shop, near the old Post Office, seems to show the judicial system in a good light. I'm often perplexed by the amount of time some cases seem to take.

cant find the article in e&s online now - but it said huge changes in policing across the whole county....pull police off streets so they can handle more crimes over phone with alternatives to arrest.
more community penalties instead of arrests
I think the thery behind it is pull the police off the streets - crime is dealt with over the phone - this lets them sift out the silly things and leaves more time to concentrate on the big fishes.
If you want to see if you can find the article it was yesterdays E&S " Shake up of policing is rolled out across county"

Why does it need a Police officer to take details of a crime by telephone? Surely civilain staff are more than capable of doing this task
Which would leave Police officers free to Police the streets
