Crossing the railway line on doxey?

Hi, went for a walk through Doxey marshes on Sunday on a route shown on an ordinance survey map. The path was shown to cross the railway line and join a housing estate at Brooklime gardens in doxey. When we got to where the map shows the crossing there is nothing. Didn't fancy a game of chicken on that line so had to double back. Does anyone know if there was a crossing there at once or are my map reading skills terrible and I've missed it. Many thanks

About 3 years ago I too attempted this crossing. The only route I could find that was near the map coordinates turned out to be a culvert, beneath the railway. The water was about 30cm deep and there was headroom above it of about 100cm. Though the water was actually quite clear I decided not to bother.

when I was younger all the doxey kids used to go swimming at sandy bottomswhich meant crossing the railway lines - there were some big sleepers accross the line and we used to go accross them but i cant remember where they were, somewhere in the area you say. It was always understood that a footbridge would be erected, but as we know it never was??? BUT shoud it have been built?

It's a rarity for a replacement footbridge to be built. The path is normally 'diverted' to another existing crossing or just stopped off.

I can remember railways back in black and white before Health and safety
the railways were protected with 3 strand wire fences , The vegetation was managed
trains were audible. easy to cross. Still not a good idea.
Doxey has always been 4 track I would never chance crossing
