Try and avoid any shopping between October and February

And around Easter

The summer

Or weekdays

Especially the weekends

In the UK

This Cuffy thread reminded me…

We have lived in our village for 23 years and for the majority of that time have used Parsons for plumbing jobs both big and small.

Until recently.

We had a problem with our en suite loo, basically it sounded like it was trying to flush, making a flushing noise every 10 minutes and keeping us awake at night.

Parsons came, dismantled it, then sent another plumber a few days later. Then nothing .

Weeks later with no working toilet we contacted them for a quote.

Still nothing so we went in to the office.
Apparantly they were “very busy“ but would send a quote soon.

Quote came for £3362.00 for new cistern, new tiling. Apparently they couldn’t get access and would have to demolish part of bathroom to gain access.

We have since have another plumber come along. He stuck his hand in the hole, pulled out a part.

We re ordered the part online at a cost of £24, plumber came back to fix it, charge of £60, no new tiling or mess.

Total cost £84 against Parsons trying to rip us off for £3362.

That's the third bad report I've heard about them in as many days. I wonder if Nige has retired.

I don’t know. Nigel Parsons lives in our village, just round the corner from my house but in 23 years of living here I’ve never met him.

In a village where there is so much going on, he really does keep himself to himself.

We had parsons quote for a kitchen tap replacement years ago(labour only) and it came to close to £200.

Yet another cuffy for Royal Mail today.

I went to post a letter at the letter box in Parkside and as I walked past the Bull a Royal Mail van pulled up. I saw the driver check the letter box and then head to the bakery.

Whilst he was waiting outside I asked him if he was collecting from the letter box and his reply was "looks like it's already been collected" and wouldn't take my letter.

I've now got to go to town to post it, great customer service or what?

It might have changed but it used to be that post(wo)men could accept letters in the countryside but not in the town.

My nearest box where I am is on the stump of a telephone pole, which was left when the pole was replaced with a new one a few feet away, being felt still suitable to hold the box up. It is in the front garden of the, now 20 years retired, ex-postman. Approaching it one day, knowing that I was pushing it for the 4pm collection, I was dismayed to see the van already there. However, as I got there, the window went down and a hand came out, saving me the last ten feet to the box itself.

Edit - I have been meaning to record this box for some time, so I've finally done it.

What do the initials on the front stand for?

Why not post at the Stone Road PO? There are other post boxes available in the North end..

Skills to Caffe Nero this morning. They were handing out Christmas cards to customers with a fully stamped loyalty card inside....
They were doing this at the Formby branch this morning as well. And they're never anything other than rammed, so nothing whatever to do with lack of trade.

I had one of their coffees in London last month and must admit that it was quite good.
