CE-Gnosall-Haughton-Levedale-Penkridge-Stretton-CE tonight. Route is set out that way to pick up a friend in Gnosall. 20 miles in 1 hour 25, not bad as I haven't been out since a week last Monday.

I've recently taken up cycling and have been doing about two lots of 15-20 miles per week. I previously ran but the old knees were beginning to get sore after each outing. Cycling is a completely different beast to running, though. It really does get the lungs going more than running. I would quite easily run 10-12 miles a time but my 15-20 miles cycling seems to really take it out of me more.

Do you lot map your runs? I use gmap pedometer to route mine.

I was cycling through Aston-By-Doxey (twinned with Chorlton-Cum-Hardy) and I thought I was going at a great speed until a trio of cyclists bombed passed me and proceeded to disappear, effortlessly, into the distance whilst I struggled against the elements. Pah!:crossarms:

Don't worry about Aston by Doxey. It happens to me there three journeys out of four. Just after the bend. I think they hide in the hedge. I chased one bloke all the way to Haughton trying to catch up. I wasn't even going in that direction.

I use Cyclemeter, which I find completely addictive.

I used to do most of my 'work' via a bike - around 100/120 miles a week - mostly five or six mile runs, but a once-a-week circuit out to Eccleshall, then Yarnfield and back home then - five or six thousand miles a year is a lot of petrol, if nothing else.

I did used to have a 'cycle-computer' thing on for many years and found that I was always aiming to improve on times and speeds - I haven't had one on the current bike for a few years and don't really miss it, except for the clock...

52 Miles This Morning

That's some calories burnt there! Nice day for it, though. I cycled to Hilderstone the other day and the hill that leads you there from Sandon is a real killer. Where abouts was it in your ride where the elevation reaches 750 ft?

Took the kids to derrington yesterday, stopped at the red lion (will report on that in the correct thread). Eldests valve was buggered and it was a presta, cue a quick cycle into town to try and find a tube and pump (we'd just broke ours) but nobody in town sold a presta valve pump! Thought it'd be easy, with sports direct, wilkos, home bargains etc. all in that area but no. Ended up at halfords, had to buy a cheap pump then pay the same again for the adapter for presta. Meant our leisurely 3.5 miles each way turned into 14 miles without a rest for me, and was a tad warm!

I was tempted to grab some (I have tyre weld for the motorbike), but as his valve was suspect I decided not to risk it. Will buy him some pre-slimed tubes I think!
