Cycling with kids

I have a bike that I haven’t used in years, at the time of buying it, it was a pretty good one and cost around £250 (10 years ago) so I’m hoping it will do me still. It needs a good once over and the tyres are pretty dire. Can anyone can recommend a bike service shop as I’d rather leave it to the experts rather than take responsibility for the safety of my bike.

In an effort to get fit I want to start getting out an about without using the car but with a baby and a four year old I’m wondering what my options are. I think that I either need a kid’s bike seat on the back and an attachment to tow a kid’s bike behind me, or a bike trailer that they can sit in. The trailer seems like the safest option but what I really want to know is they hard to pull?

A mate of mine used to use a trailer, he thought they were great. They are pretty light, but if you've not cycled in a while you may find it tough.

EDIT: Try back2bikes for the service?

I know somebody that used to pull two kids round in a trailer - and she is really tiny. It seems to have stopped now as they are both well bigger than she is and no longer require such transportation.

Back2Bikes will service and repair for you.

..and might even have a trailer..

I've called Back2Bikes and they've told me to pop it in and they'll have a look at it.

No trailers in at the mo but they can order them in, there are a couple on ebay that look promising as well.

Trailers are ok, bit of a pig uphill, my only thought would be your 4 yo would outgrow it fairly quickly. A bike seat and a tagalong might be a bit cumbersome, especially if you aren't that used to cycling, so the trailer would probably be the best option in the short term.

It's not too hilly round here - it does depend on the routes that the trailer might be required to be used on...

A little survey, on a bike, would be useful, as hills are not always so apparent when one is motored..

I have recently been made aware of this place -

I knew someone was looking for one of these - if you are still looking, I just noticed there is now one for sale on the Forum.
