D Day in Stafford

Was disappointed to see no acknowledgement in town of the fact that yesterday was the 70th anniversary of D Day. I was not expecting brass bands and a fanfare, but some bunting outside the Ancient High House, the home of the museum of the Staffordshire Yeomanry, which was one of the units that served in the Normandy campaign would of been a nice gesture with a simple message of gratitude to all the men from that regiment and men and women from Stafford and the wider area that served and died during the whole of the war not just the Normandy Campaign.

The 59th Staffordshire division which has its Cenotaph opposite the train station was the only duplicated territorial division to have served in Normandy and the majority of its men (including my grandad who served with 7th BTN South Staffords) were from this area.

I dont suppose many War veterans read this forum, but if they do I would like to extend my huge gratitude to you. The world owes you a huge debt for the sacrifices you made and the horrors you witnessed, not just during the Normandy campaign but the whole of the war.
