Dallans Computer shop, Gaol Road

I'm no gynaecologist...
Can anyone tell me if the advert outside saying laptops from £30-150 is actually legit.

I know laptops are a fairly fast moving commodity these days but that seems damn cheap.

My daughter is having a birthday soon and has asked for a laptop since the age of 4 1/2 + one half fag end.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Is that Dalans on Gaol Road you mean?

Never been in that shop.. but when they started off upstairs in the Guildhall (when there were 2 floors) and latter moved to opposite the library... they sold nothing but tat! Personally would steer well clear... but others may have different experiences.

Heard a few dodgy reports, but all hearsay and nowt first hand. Just check it for security markings first.

Could be legit, but either way I wouldn't expect anything better than a low end Pentium 3 for £150. A better option is to spend £180 on a brand spanking new Aspire One netbook for her (16Gb hard drive version) and possibly put Windows XP on it ;)
Despite a few bad reports when they first started out, they're actually a good piece of kit now and I can't fault them. Converted one to XP for a customer only last night and he's extremely impressed with it.

I was in there the other week, and most of the laptops looked fairly old; I suspect one of them could have had the y1k bug. :)
I've bought several things from them over the years, never had any problems with anything. As a matter of principle, though, don't buy anything without at least turning it on first.

I'm surprised that this shop has survived everything in town, and especially with the move out to near the Jail.

IMO they make their profit and stay successful by cashing kids up £5 for PS and XBOX 360 games and then re-selling them at prices almost as high as buying them new!! But for them and many game shops it seems to work for them. I just feel sorry for little tommie jones who uses his paper round money for 4 weeks to buy a new game, plays it and completes it in 3 days and then gets the equivalent to 4 or 5 days paper money back for it. Poor blighters!

He sold me a security camera once - it was ace.

Maaaaan I miss that place - I haven't really been in it since it moved to the Prison.... er, to "by" the prison, should I say.

I love shops like that, all sorts of odds and ends!

I went in about just before Christmas. It stank of fag smoke for a start and whilst I was in there a couple of dodgy looking geezers were trying to sell there wares !!!! I don't know the outcome as I left.

did anyone spot my "Twins" VHS tape whilst they were in there? Got about 50p for it about 8 years ago. Went straight in Joxer's coffers as I seem to remember :pint:

Have they moved or closed down? Hopefully the former as I've had some cracking deals off them over the past few years.

Does anybody know.

It is either a good thing or a bad thing that there is a lot of nothing in Norway.

Sort of thing.

Wonder if she's on the forum?
Dunno, but you should've seen his face when I said I came from Stafford. I think he (Allegedly) owes a lot of people a lot of money.
