So the lad at work had a head on crash and the other driver sadly died. Dashcam footage exonerated him of all blame... Other driver was on the wrong side of the road. Without this footage things for him may have been very worrying. I now have a Dashcam! A nice posh Nextbase one!

What I'd like help with is the following if anyone can answer please

Should I have my speed getting registered? My concern is how that would affect anything should I be speeding if an accident occurred that wasn't my fault?
What resolution should I use. Its currently on 1440 p but feels like 1080 60fps is the way to go?

Any other gotchas I'd be best avoiding?

    Ta in advance

    1. personal preference if need be the speed of your vehicle can be very accurately calculated based on the speed the scenery moves. if GPS location and time are being recorded then so is speed regardless of whether it's displayed on the video.
    2. again personal preference/hardware fitted. take sample footage of both settings and playback. which picks up important details best i.e number plates
    3. ensure you always drive in a legal and safe manner any footage captured can be used to defend or prosecute you.

Keep everything on, including speech and speed. If you turn off speed, they will ask why you did that and use it as a defence, that you were afraid of people knowing how fast you were going.

If it's the third party's fault then it's their fault.

Delete unnecessary footage on a regular basis, ie daily.

Playing back footage can be a bit mind numbing. I sat watching my journey down the M5 once and the most noticeable thing was the really awful singing and bad language somebody in the car was using. Must have been a poltergeist or something as I was the only one in the car !! :hmm:

Leave everything on, speech, speed, G force etc etc. Two incidents since I've been using one have proved useful to me.

No need as the camera will overwrite footage once the card is full (will it not ?)

May not be often enough depending on the size of the SD card.

Yes but I have turned it off! What I think of other drivers and the fragrant language I use is best kept within the 4 metal walls

Then turn it back on. Quite often things happen out of sight of the camera. Last thing you want/need is someone saying you threatened them in anyway and you unable to prove it. At least with voice recording, you will have a change to prove yourself.

Only in so much as if you do speed at times, like most of us may do, then best not leave unnecessary evidence.

Besides if there's no problem, no need to keep the footage.

Hope you are cleverer than me and are able to remember how to save the valued incriminating bits after the event :/. think I might forget under stress

What I've noticed about the dashcam and the satnav is that after a while they seem to be talking to each other. And they've both took to calling me 'Dave' and asking me if I still have enthusiasm for the 'mission.'

This camera has a big stand-alone button to press should the need arise in that case.

if you leave the voice recording on then if something happens you can also read out the Reg Number of the cars involved as a backup incase it isn't clear in the video.
Had to do that once when a van cut me up on a roundabout and hit the front of my car without stopping, because of the rain and mud you couldn't see the reg clearly but you could hear it.
