Dead Set

so, who watched Dead Set last night? it was pretty much exactly what i expected, and i enjoyed it.. it's full of shameless clichés (people instantly zombified once bitten, wild intelligience:stamina ratio, eating entrails, a cocky youngster refusing to believe it until he gets eaten, one of the protagonists receiving a minor bite and unaware of the inevitable consequences, etc.) but i love that kind of shiz so i lapped it up..

didn't realise it was written by charlie brooker, though.. bit of a change of direction for him - be good to see if he incorporates his usual close to the knuckle sense of humour :)

"Dead Set is E4's biggest-budget commission to date and was devised and written by Guardian columnist and Nathan Barley co-creator Charlie Brooker, who is creative director of Zeppotron."
you could tell production values were high.. the effects were easily on par with any other modern day zombie film! and it's remarkably gruesome - one scene was an "homage" to Irreversible, featuring a zombie being despatched by means of a fire extinguisher to the head.. repeatedly.. in graphic, sustained detail..

Is it on 4OD?
no idea.. i've still yet to use/see any of these new fangled on-demand things all the terrestrial channels seem to offer these days, but if they know what's good for them then, yes, this will be on it..

I'm always amazed by the fact that Most Haunted never seem to think of turning the blooming light on.

just watched episode 2 in my lunch.. all pretty standard fair, but done well so i'm still enjoying it plenty.. the insipid show producer stuck in the office with that vapid contestant is pretty funny - "Use up all the air?? It's not a submarine, you specimen!" lol

Apparently it is being shown on 4OD
and i've heard that they're showing an edited "feature length" version on saturday, so it has more of a movie feel..

easy! i dont see you berrating torirat and wookie for mentioning television other than your precious dead set

was kicking myself for missing it. this wasnt an attempt to derail your thread but an effort to earn kudos for watching zombie related fair.

dead set feels a little bit like 28 days later, photographic wise.

How come? They're great, 9 times out of 10 work perfectly (except iplayer) and you don't have to watch things when the schedulers tell you to - result :D

:scouse: calm down, rarse! i just jumped on yours cos it was the first and only response in the thread, so i wanted to make sure the topic didn't stray before it got started.. obviously, a certain amount of zombie-related chatter is going to be relevant in this thread

Fair point. Sky+ is fantastic, if I watched enough TV I would invest however I don't. My parents have it though and the series link is the best thing since sliced bread :D

don't pay for it.. i didn't.. i just phoned up sky and said i wanted to cancel my contract, because i had a new job which involved shift work (which was bollocks) so i was missing all my favourite programs.. they offered me a sky+ box at a discount £49, but i had received an inside tip so turned this down..

sure enough, a few days before the mandatory 30-day cancellation period was up, they phoned me back and said "please stay - we'll give you a free sky+ box!" :D:up:

didnt danny boyle shoot it completely on digital - i remember that being quite ground breaking at the time, giving the film a grainy, low quality feel which totally complemented the apocalyptic setting. seems to be working with dead set too!

edit for fat fingers
