Disposal of Old Propane Gas bottles

The house we have moved into has six old and rusty gas bottles in the garden.
I have cleaned up the garden and had a skip to get rid of the rubbish but didn't want to throw these in due to the danger of gas residue.
Does anyone know where to dispose of these.

How rusty are they? Spleeny on this forum has been known to make BBQs out of them in the past but depends on size.

Not that rusty paints faded and looks like they have been left outside .
The two newer ones I am going to keep for the BBQ so there are four butane bottles 2 number 15kg and 2 number 8kg.

Don't they go BOOM when you cut them up?

Does the scrap an not visit your neighbourhood? If he does he'll most likely take them of your hands..........

I didn't know if there was any elf and safety issues/legislation when disposing of the things.
They must have been on a contract at some point in time.
I suppose that I could give them to the scrappy.

He's massively busy at the moment, both with his normal building work & funky stage building during the festival season. I'll have a word and see what he can do.

edit: Just spoken to him and he has some already built...he's gonna send me pics & prices so I'll post them on here when I get them.

Should the 'gas barbecue' market become saturated, gas bottles are accepted at the tip, but I think you have to fill a form in and there may be a limit on numbers..

'Barbecue', 'saturated', in the same sentence, who'ld have thought it..?
