Whilst driving over to Rocester this afternoon I went through Weston and saw 2 local hi-viz wearing locals wielding a speed gun and noting stuff down on a clipboard.
Does anyone know their plans???
I think they took my plate doing 36/37 ish...!!
Members of the public impersonating hairdressers?Hairdryer?
Or maybe people who don't want people speeding through their village?Community Speedwatch. Lots of places have them.
Local residents ( mostly retired teachers with too much time on their hands) trained to use speed check "guns" & carry out random speed checks in their area. They take the reg number of "offenders" & pass them onto the chief constable's office. If you're reported you'll get a letter advising you of your crime & that will be kept on record. If you're a repeat offender you might get a visit from someone with more authority.
The speedwatchers have no legal authority so you won't get fined etc, its more of a deterrent really. As I said, too much time on their hands.
Not sure what the point is there.Apparently most people reported by community speedwatch live within a mile or so of the speedcheck.

You have data to back this up?It's the locals complaining about the speeding through their village that are actually doing the majority of the speeding offences. It's always somebody else of course, never them.

Not exactly data but when our village parish council we're looking into setting this up & get camera vans a trial was carried out & (I can't remember exact details) the majority of vehicles over the limit were local residents. The speedwatch didn't happen for a few years but vans were sited pretty much immediately. You have data to back this up?
Either way, speeding in a built-up area is a no no, so it really matters little where the speeders come from, only that the speeding stops or is seriously cut down, surely.
