Dog and Cat Flea Treatments.

Not having either a dog or a cat, I wasn't aware of the dangers posed by accidentally interchanging canine and feline flea treatments - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-28560195 - permethrin was, and maybe still is, a frequent constituent of some domestic pesticides - so, it might be worth reading the label before spraying near any catnip....

And I wish everyone kept their animals properly maintained... my youngest daughter was badly bitten in our caravan on holiday (we're convinced it must have been the previous holiday-makers dog sleeping on one of the beds). Turns out to be tick bites and yesterday she's been diagnosed with Lyme's Disease. Thankfully we've caught it early enough on for her to receive treatment via anti-biotics, but not impressed all the same.

I'm no expert on ticks, but could it be possible that your daughter was bitten by ticks whilst out and about? Sheep ticks are EVERYWHERE in our countryside, and I don't think we've had a holiday in this country when our dog hasn't picked up a tick and brought it home as a souvenir, and I spend hundreds every year on flea/tick treatments!!

Glad your daughter is Ok :)

I'm pretty sure not. It's not a sheepish area, and she just woke up covered with them after the first nights sleep. We actually swapped her over with step son and he got just a couple of bites during the remainder of the week (although he's not usually of the blood type that bitey insects seem to like anyway). We're therefore convinced it was the bed.

Not sure that there need to be sheep around in spite of the name of the commonest species, they feed on many mammals. There are sheep ticks on the Chase, probably from the deer. There are also hedgehog & fox ticks. The advice is to avoid long grass, bracken & other tall vegetation, also use insect repellant.

I saw little Miss Wmr today and she's well enough to put one across Wmr that he didn't even spot until I pointed it out to him - very impressive - although, I felt a bit guilty afterwards - should have kept my mouth shut...
