Doxey Marshes.

I would imagine that there might be the odd grass snake in the vicinity, but I've never seen one there..

Snakes in the grass are absolutely free.
The Marshes are an excellent place for a picnic.

There i was on Doxey marshes near a bunch of geese, taking in the sights, smells and overall relaxing feel of the place, before, yes you've guessed it, a couple of small dogs coming belting up to the pack of geese chasing them into the lake barking as they went.

ruined.

The two dogs were followed by their owners, swinging their little transparent bags of zogzhit as they go - oblivious to life itself, if only i could be the same!

now, i just need one person to help me out here, how, when there masses of signs around stating that dog owners should keep their dogs on leads in certain areas of the marshes, they don't?

It wasn't just these numbskulls either, it was the majority of the dog walkers over there, does the rule not apply on a Sunday?

Help me out someone, just agreement with my frustration would be enough.

The signs may say that dogs should be on leads during the breeding season due to there being a lot of ground-nesting birds there.

This time of year should be ok i would have thought.

A pair of Shelduck today

They've bred here again - 12 ducklings!

It may have been 11, or even 13 - tricky blighters to count - but either way it's quite a sight.

Also was this close to a linnet -

- in one of the hawthorns by the side of Isabel.

To keep 'on sub-forum topic', i then went to the pub and had something to eat. :)

We pop over to the marshes several times a week to walk the dog - love it over there and its only just round the corner from us. Haven't spotted any unusual birds - but then I wouldn't know what to look for :(
The oddest thing we ever saw over there was two fire engines full of firemen and several farmers trying to drag a cow out of the brook - we watched for around half an hour - idly bantering about how heavy we thought a cow was and once we had come to a ballpark figure between us - how long we thought said cow would feed us both for!
After a good 40 minutes or so of the firemen and farmers huffing and puffing, trying to get the cow out the beast calmy stood up and walked out of the brook herself :)
