Driving with Fog lights when it isn't foggy!?

BBC

You knows it
Why on earth do so many of Stafford's motorists insist on driving with their fog lights on when it isn't foggy!?

Cus they wanna make all da hot girls luk at der sick cars though innit.

The only people I ever see with foglights on are 17-year olds in Citroen Saxos, and people driving Rovers and wearing hats. The latter are probably not trying to attract girls, but the foglights are on because they set out a few weeks ago in the fog and still haven't got back from the shops yet.

...

Please don't take any of this post seriously. I'm only having a joke and don't want to offend anyone!

Having only front foglights on is actually a signal defined in the Highway Code as 'Caution. Approaching vehicle is being driven by a twat with a baseball cap on backwards and who is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is'.

I believe it used to be an option on smaller Rovers, they come on automatically in November and remain on until April.

It's also illegal, I got stopped once for having my fogs on inadvertantly and was informed that if the officer wasn't in such a good mood I would have received a penalty. To I thanked him and asked him to pass on my regards to his wife who had done a great job of servicing him the night before.

The last bit is untrue :P

Indeed. It irritates me no end. The rozzers should employ fog light snipers.

That annoys me too. I drove with sidelights on today and was considering headlights but decided not to as I was nearly where I needed to be. If I'd been going further I'd have put on headlights, but some people still had none on. It's amazing how much more visible you are with sidelights on. I think we ought to have daytime running lights like in parts of Europe as sidelights don't do any harm on bright days but make you more visible on dull days.

Been standard on Volvos for ages!

DRL certainly wouldn't hurt. I remember reading a good while back that since Arriva made it standard procedure that their buses should have headlights on at all times, the number of accidents they were involved in (pedestrians / vehicles) dropped significantly. You'd think people could see a bloody great bus looming at them without headlights, but there we go!!

As dull and grey as Lincolnshire?..

Speaking of which -
I was driving back from Lincolnshire last weekend, funnily enough, and navigating the bits of Lincs, Yorks, Notts, Derbs & Staffs all the way there were folks with headlights full on as if it made things better!!! Thick fog, down to about 50 yards in places and I can't remember seeing any fog lighs til I got back to Stafford.

I was tutting and shaking my head like an old fart! Sign ofthe times I suppose - on all counts!
