Does it happen with all movies or just a particular one?

Laptop DVD mechanism are pretty intricate things and as the speed changes as the disk is played they can hit a point where an oscillation occurs (hence the noise) if a disk isn't perfectly balanced, or maybe slightly warped for some reason...

if it wont read cd's then its the laser you tend to find they stop reading a dvd but read a cd then stop reading both, i would happily replace it for you and fit it for free if you like.

They're not to expensive these days thankfully.

Before you do anything though, do the obvious thing... clean the laser. A clean cotton bud and anything pure alcohol based will do the trick (or cd cleaning solution)

You never know! :)

very true even perfume is a good bet daft as it sounds has a high alcohol content lol but do not push on the laser if using cotton buds
