Eating out in Lichfield - recommendations?

Meeting up with friends in Lichfield but don't know it that well.
Can anyone recommend places for dinner out.
Good quality (i.e. no boil in the bag chains), but not too expensive either.
Type of restaurant unimportant.
Thanks

We went to a lovely Italian in Lichfield, although can't remember it's name. Goldilox might though...

How do I edit this?
We also had a fairly decent pub lunch at The Bowling Green not too long ago, although I seem to remember the service suffering a little for the establishment's success.

Enjoying a drop of red.

The Bowling Green is very nice, but as you say it can, at times, be the victim of it's own success.

But you did ask for a place that wasn't a boil in the bag places which I would imagine would be the case with most of the chains. ( This is a response to your reply to Bob)

Whenever I meet friends in Lichfield we go to 1709 The Brasserie.

If you google it you will find their website.
It's small but on 2 floors with wooden beams, nooks and crannys, creaky floorboards.

The food is cooked fresh, but the best thing is lunch is 2 courses for £6.90 and dinner 2 courses for £11.90 although it may be different in Dec.

It's really lovely but it does get packed so you will need to book.

I know Lichfield quite well and have eaten there several times - as Gram says the Hedgehog is on the outskirts but is lovely - olde worlde charm and they usually have a real fire going in the winter. the Olive Tree and Ego are also really good. Ego has lovely views over the river.

If anyone ever happens to hear that Tony Colley, formerly of Colley's Yard in Lichfield, has opened another restaurant I would love to know. That was my favourite place to eat and I still miss it.
