I quite liked the original kind like in that listing, but would prefer new.
Not so keen on the towsure one though, but cheers for looking anyway.

I suppose the copper ones are quite difficult to keep looking new. Might just stick with the basic plan which is a £15 basic one in translucent red from Argos. Bonus point - 10 years guarantee.

The copper ones were lacquered, but that wouldn't last for ever, especially on gas - hence the chrome version, but there was a further premium on the price of those..

You need to put the sensor of a 'whole house meter' around either the live or neutral wire, both not both, or the fields will just cancel each other out. If you have it around a two or three core cable then it should read zero, if all is well..
Spot on advice that was G thanks! I've now placed it around the positive feed only to my light show equipment, and it seems to be reporting the kind of consumption I expected.
Skill point for solving my idiocy in this matter

I can report that I found the coffee produced with the water from it to be perfectly adequate just now.

That would be awsome for in the car and days out :)
You might like to use it at least ten metres from a vehicle - the early ones could be quite 'exciting', apparently..

This http://www.kellykettle.com/ works well for the outdoors and costs bugger all to use. Waste packaging, twigs, sticks or just about anything (within reason) will work in it.
