Hi guys, I need an electrician. Is there one here in the forum? One of my Dimplex above door blow heaters has stopped working. Tried the fuses but no good.

I guess as you have checked the fuse it's completely U/S rather than just blowing cold air?

I bet you bought them a year and a week ago so it's out of warranty :(

Very interesting failure mode. Everything appeared to be OK. We followed the live through and it was everywhere that it should be. All the switches were functioning and the blower motor and heater elements had continuity. In the end it turned out to be a failure of the neutral pole in the fused switched spur plate. The neutral load connection had got hot, oxidised, and then got hotter. This allowed the housing to deform slightly and meant that there was no neutral continuity through the switch. We went a couple of doors up to the lighting shop ( which I would never have thought of ) and got a replacement plate. A bit of shortening of the offending wire and a quick reconnection and all was well. Apart from the smell of the dust that I had blown onto the elements....

Should have thought of it, really. High current and extended use means that you do need your terminations to be bang on..

Good point. Now I think, a friends electric cooker had failed for a similar reason twice within 12 months. That was my mate doing the connections. I did it the last time and made sure they were very clean and tight, and it's now 24 months on without happening again. (I shouldn't speak too soon)

He is, indeed. But I'm still in purdah from the demise of Wardstaffs and wasn't thinking straight..
