Elephant Hawkmoth

Just found one of these amazing creatures in my garden.

10 years on wildwood and i've never seen one before! Newts yes...but not these.

Must admit he did give me quite a fright when i see this big thing lurking underneath the weeds!

The caterpillar? They're a serious-looking thing. I had one a few years ago - I saw it plainly about eighty feet away on the lawn, looking like a slug in a time-lapse film - they're not slow.

I'm jealous!

Quite a few years ago I saw a hummingbird hawk moth outside st Mary's, I'd never known about hawk-moths before that & didn't know what it was at the time.

Yep thats the chap!

I thought it was some kind of snake...which apparently is a defensive posture.

Need to go find some Fuchsias now to attract some more!
