Falling standards of Iceland ?

I've seen Iceland appear on watchdog in the past about their food standards, but walked in recently and actually seen some out of date mince lying on the shelf , with the new just plopped on top.

Is there no sort of quality control there at all or is it just a one off ? I've heard others talk about the dubious meat quality too.

Thoughts ?

I've always had decent quality joints of frozen meat from Iceland so far . Always go into the shop and choose my own and have it delivered.

(Gone off Aldi frozen chicken since finding a piece of blue glove attached to one portion, but so far Iceland purchases have been 'alien objects' free)

Dunno how true this is but at least 50% of the comments seem to think it's true.

But apparently Iceland's closing down sale starts tomorrow, and it's last day will be the 14th .

Allegedly, it's secured the old M&S building.

Like I said, could just be a wild rumour, but wouldn't be shocked.

They're big into the Food Warehouse brand now, and M&S would be a good size for that.

Interesting, why wouldn't they just move the stock as it's round the corner? They were putting stock out on Sunday, why do that if you know it's all gotta get reduced?

Mind you, the reduced freezer they have is great. Keep picking up those indian street food things for 25p a go. They're great on chips :D

I smell bullsh~t.

They could load onto one of their freezer lorries if need be and move the stock over in one run .
Failing that they would distribute stock to their nearest stores in the area and replenish when ready with fresh stock for the new store.

if there is any reductions , it'll possibly only be chilled ( fresh ) goods.

I dunno, when Currys / PC World closed (during the refurb) , we just had a fire sale to get rid of everything instead of getting a van to transport stock about, so depends on the company I guess. Although saying that, some boxed stock was loaded up and put in neighbouring stores though.

It depends, I doubt it’s worth the hassle moving stuff about, just like when monsoons went, technically they could have put the clothes in Accessorize instead of liquidating it, and that was across the road!

I got some really good bargains when the old Farmfoods in town closed down. They really slashed everything in the last few days (I called into the nearby Panasonic shop on my way home with my bargains, and joked with the salesperson there that I hoped they didn't close down. Bloke said "no-way!".....Went back down the next day to place an order in Panasonic and they were closed , and that was the end of that shop as well. )

No doubt someone will report back soon after raiding the store themselves.
Not much room left in my freezer so it wont be me .

Going by the stock reductions they have every few months I can't believe all those items are sat out back in freezers just waiting, they'd need loads of spare capacity for items they have removed from sale. The fact that they take them off sale, wait a while then put them in a reduced freezer makes me think they send random boxes of stuff from the main warehouse to stores that have spare capacity for a sale freezer as and when needed. As an example some of the items currently in there I haven't seen on sale for several months, why store them locally and not just get rid as soon as they get discontinued like they do some other items?

I could be completely wrong, it's not unknown, but it sounds odd.

Popped in tonight as I was passing, and as expected the shop was as normal. However the reduced freezer has been restocked, lots of the mexican street food range for 25p and I loved those so grabbed about 10. Also had 2 salmon fillets for a quid and 2 venison burgers for 50p, I've filled my freezer :D

That's Donny BSB BBQ sorted then, do they do breakfast cider? :)
