Considering a holiday for Summer 2008 in Florida, not Disney World. As we don't know much about the place, could do with some helpful advice.

I'd prefer to cut out the middle man ie Travel Agents, but looking online is very overwhelming without a starting point.

The holiday home appeals to me, so if anyone has one they are willing to let . . .

Now if you can come up with another destination, equally appealing for kids, I'd be interested to hear about them.

Thanks.

We spent many a happy summer staying in a motell (Can't exactly remember the name but it was run by a Canadian called Mr. Conti) in Clearwater Beach, just down from Tampa. It's lovely and relaxed bit of the world with San fransico style trollies running up and down the coast.

My folks don't drive so we just used public transport - which is excellent. We made it to major themeparks on coack tours (as a bonus your much, much closer to Busch gardens - the Best theme park in Florida!!).

We did once stay on International Drive and Did orlando - and that was about it, but it was no where near as relaxing as Clearwater Beach.

Miami, great latino feel. If you wanted to you could pop over to cuba while you were there. luscious. not really for the kids though.........

There's a chap who used to work for the Shropshire and Staffordshire SHA who has a 4 bedroom house to let in Florida for £500 a week. One or two in the PCT where I work have his contact details (I think). I'll dig them out if they're any use?

I've seen a pic of the place before and it looks effin immense. Indoor pool, gym etc.

All good, cheers forumites. Gloop if I could get some details that would be great. I've been told today how nice anything south of Tampa is, beaches where you collect shark teeth!! We're just lookin for something relaxing, with some proper plush beaches, and enough to keep the little un amused, which is why avoiding Orlando is a must.

Miss T, do you still need the details?

If you do try www.platinumvillas.com

The chap I used to work with who has the Villa is called Mike Aldis. He has a four bedroom holiday home available for rent in Florida. About 5mins from Disneyworld.

Clearwater beach is a really beautiful place to stay. If you fancy a bit of a drive then the everglades is well worth a visit... even if the airboat rides and "gators" are a bit scary! My ultimate place to visit tho is the dolphin rescue centre on key largo. The dolphins are contained in pools calved out of the rocks where they can still catch fish bought in by the incoming tides. You can swim and snorkel with them and it is a truly mind blowing experience.
