FM Radio glitches.

For the last couple of days I have been getting short (about a tenth of a second) drop-outs on broadcasts from BBC Radios 2, 3 & 4. First of all, I thought it might just be a passing thing, but this has been occurring on two different FM receivers and seems to be getting worse. They have made no mention of any problem. Is anybody else experiencing this? It seems to be becoming more frequent - about two/three a minute just now.

Been getting it on Radio Stoke too. Thought maybe it was bad tuning, but I also had it on Radio 2 when listening to Brian Matthew yesterday morning.

That's where I first heard it and put it down to his shows being recorded - but , it's been everywhere since and is getting a real pain. There's no transmitter issues being made public.

Sounds like a possible knockout being caused by someone with an illegal and overpowered CB or something to me. I remember being hunted by everyone in our area as a kid, because my CB was totally blocking TV signals every time I keyed the mic up.... it didn't take long for someone to spot my huge whip (oo er) on the side of the house and figure out what the problem was. ;)

Didn't have any problems with Sounds of the 60s this morning, haven't had any with Radio Stoke for past couple of days either.

I haven't spotted any for a few days - but, it was happening on the car radio, too. I gave up listening for a bit, it just got too irritating.

Did you try listening digitally to see if it was an FM specific issue or a problem with the actual broadcast?

I did listen online, and am unclear as to whether the odd glitches that I heard there were the same as the ones that I would have heard via FM - the time variation makes it impossible to compare the two directly - I didn't listen via DAB, though. I did (for investigative purposes only) listen to Classic FM for as long as I could manage and didn't hear any glitches. The BBC ignored my enquiry and it does seem to have gone away now.

Parked up a couple of hundred metres from a rather spooky air navigation beacon on a windswept Welsh hilltop the other day. Car locks suddenly started going haywire. Played it cool. Continued surveying scene. Then, when moving to exit vehicle, bloody alarms go off. Impossible to retain cool under circumstances. Scrabbled in pocket for key fob to make it all stop. Only at that point realised that key fob had unaccustomed pocket companion in form of pocketknife, which had evidently been enjoying intimacy with buttons on key fob. Soon put a stop to all that malarkey. Still, made me wonder briefly about emissions from beacon.
