Foodbanks?

I'd like to donate food regularly to help someone genuinely struggling but can't find anywhere suitable. By suitable I mean somewhere that doesnt allow people who have made benefit scrounging a lifestyle choice to receive donations. Before anyone jumps in, I was directly told by a food bank volunteer that there are quite a few people who use one food bank in town that almost thrive on the dependence culture. I can't get on board with this. If you are able bodied and fit to work rather than go the food bank get a bloody job!! If I'm going to spend money I've worked hard to earn on other less fortunate people I'm not prepared to donate to scroungers. I'd like to donate to an organisation that is supporting those who are doing everything they can to help themselves but have just found themselves in tough times. People who work but just can't earn enough to support their families, that sort of thing. I'd particularly like to help working single Mums and Dads who have chosen to work rather than make benefits a lifestyle choice or the womens refuge. I'd also prefer not to donate via any religious organisation. Anyone know of anywhere please?

I'm aware this is a post that not all will agree with or relate too, its my personal choice only, so save the abuse! If you disagree with my sentiment then feel free to donate food to one of the existing food banks rather than criticise me!

@kyoto49 for once, I think your sentiment is right, albeit there are a few harsh aspects of your post.

For similar reasons to yours I offer to buy people sleeping rough some food or a hot drink rather than giving them cash to buy beer or drugs.

Not sure of any organisations like the ones you're looking for, sorry.

"For once" lol, I feel so much better now :)

I try and help the homeless but buying food for them nowadays has led to seeing homeless people with nothing sitting amongst piles of junk food! They can only eat so much :).

I wonder if Kyoto thinks, how do I top what I typed yesterday. I know, how can I give to a foodbank for people that dont need foodbanks. I dont want to give my out of date panetone to people that choose poverty as a lifestyle choice. FFS .

I think the point @kyoto49 was trying to make was there are people claiming benefits and using food banks who if they changed their lifestyle priorities they wouldn't need either.

I know several young families who claim benefits rather than work put still smoke and waste money to fund their lifestyle rather than go out and earn money.

I also know of someone (not from Stafford) who occasionally uses a food bank when they don't need it at all. They've just wasted their benefit money on shite.

There is no denying that a small minority of people like living on benefits but the vast majority want off that desperate cycle .Foodbanks for the majority are a final resort.

Of course I am guessing this as I am pretty close to middle class and in an alright job. My family however arent and are reliant on foodbanks.

This is exactly my point, thanks. I live in an area of Stafford where I witness this everyday. If these people got a job then the food bank donations could be used for people in genuine hardship not those who play the system to get as much out as possible with no intention of ever putting back in.

"He's got a job the greedy c*nt, benefits aren't enough for him"

Heard in Pitt Street 2016

There is a significant underclass who prefer to commit petty crime, smoke, drink, do drugs, and be able to afford an iPhone and sky tv yet still want to live off other people's hard work. I'm not supporting that, and I make no apology for it.

I don't even know what panetone is? Is it vegan? I was thinking hygiene products for women, staple foods, pasta, rice, pulses.......actually!

Correct me if i am mistaken.

I thought you needed to be referred to a foodbank from a doctor , social service , police etc.
meaning you would need to be in a dire position to be approved ( unless Stafford does things differently ) , and even then its only for a certain amount of uses / time.

I think they need to demonstrate they are unable to put food on the table. They are then given a voucher. No one asks them to account for how they have spent their benefits

Foodbanks are used by working people as well you know , its not just exclusive to people on benefits.
believe it or not , they are mostly used by working people who are on a minimum wage or zero hour contract and simply cannot earn enough to pay the bills and feed themselves at the same time.

regarding people out of work ,vouchers are usually given when a benefit has been suspended or stopped and the person is likely to starve to death.

not everything you see is so black and white , even though the media would have you believe the world is full of 'scroungers' .
