There is a free Cycling for Health course starting on Saturday 22 November and there are still a couple of places left if you're quick. It's a 10 session course for people who want to cycle more but lack confidence or need to refresh their cycling skills. You don't even need to own a bike as one can be hired for the duration.

After each training session ther will be a led bike ride starting off on traffic free cycle routes and progressing to a full health ride. After you have completed the course you willlbe welcome to join the regular led health rides that will be organised.

There's more info about Cycling for Health and a link to the course programme here:

This looks interesting, I am not up for the course however I think I will start participating in these health rides. I used to cycle 12 miles a day to work and back and then probably do another 5 miles visiting friends (I also lived at the top of the hill on Redruth Drive in Baswich) and my fitness levels were much higher than they are now. I can recommend it to anyone!

I'm dubious of the figures quoted though, I can't believe taking up cycling will reduce the risk of heart disease at the same rate as quitting smoking does :teef:
