I'm sure this will appeal to many...not me though. Tea all the way.

To celebrate 'Good Coffee Day' tomorrow, you can claim a 1 Tall (12oz) cup of Café Estima Blend™ Fairtrade brewed coffee per customer from 2pm and until the Starbucks shop closes (which is a lot earlier than Sainsbury's if your intending to claim in Stafford...unless there's another Starbucks on the main street...which there probably is...). I'm not *entirely* sure that this is happening at the Sains one cos it says 'Selected stores only', but can't see any reason why this one wouldn't be taking part. Enjoy.

It is indeed happening at the Sansibury's store. Head down and grab a free fairtrade coffee.
the Starbucks is open until about 6:30pm / 7pm (I know my hubby gets home at 7:30pm.

Opening soon are Starbucks in the centre of Stafford and one at Trentham Gardens.

Also worth mentioning is that it is Fairtrade Fortnight at the moment and EVERYBODY should be helping out by buying Fairtrade stuff.

Knowing the sort of people who hang out here - there are some great Fairtrade wines around, these days, and available at most supermarkets (I like the Los Robles for Sainsbury's). Co-op are even doing a Fairtrade beer. But how about taking in some Fairtrade tea & coffee to work and getting everyone to try it to show how good it's become (many people still think it tastes bad but the quality is excellent these days). Of course there are Fairtrade bananas but there are also Fairtrade pineapples, coconuts, oranges and even roses. Actually there are about 3000 Fairtrade products these days, so I best not list them all!

Anyone who saw Black Gold on the TV last night will surely now want to suport Fairtrade and Fairtrade Fortnight is the ideal time as there are loads of events going on - have a look here for some local ones: http://www.staffordbc.gov.uk/live/welcome.asp?id=6040 or go along to the Stone (1 March) and Stafford (8 March) Farmers' Markets were there will be Fairtrade stalls and stuff going on with free samples, free chocolate, games and more info.

Choose Today - Choose Fairtrade as they say!

Never been to a Starbucks since emergency services were charged for three cases of water to help victims in New York on 9/11. Yes, I can hold a grudge.

Erm - Starbucks is a manager-owned franchise, not a chain. They're basically independent coffee shops who pay to use the Starbucks name and brand, but are then contractually obliged to make their shop look like every other Starbucks and sell the Starbucks range.

The 9/11 SNAFU was down to one store - you can't logically blame the entire organisation for it, because they don't own or run the store that did it.

I ain't going in there either, mind you I have rarely, if ever, been in a cafe in the last 5 years. If I did, it would be a local independent one, and failing that the Co-Op.

Unfortunately I have been told I have a peptic ulcer, and that I should restrict my Tea/Coffee intake. As a fireman this is a serious inconvenience, Nay! a handicap! Tea forms the structure of the fireman's day. I used to start with up to 2 pints of creosote thick, leaf tea from a real pot (internally unwashed for years) with breakfast. A day shift starts with a couple of teas after the safety checks on vehicles and equipment. 11.00 hrs sees tea break. Tea can also be taken at any random point in the day, especially after a fire call, (fire tea). 16.00 hrs is a religiously observed tea break. That is a hell of a lot of tea. Nights form the same pattern, with tea used to keep oneself awake in the wee small hours, whilst waiting for a fire call.

Despite my scouring t'internet I could find no conclusive evidence that tea causes/excerbates peptic ulcers, but I have obeyed the quack never the less. I now drink a lot of weak squash, and when at home fruit teas! (Fruit teas are definitely a no-no on a fire station!).

Does anyone have any other ideas for tasty alternatives beverages?

I would have thought the acid in a squash (plus all the addatives and sugars) would be far worse than tea, but then I'm not a medical man! Perhaps rooibos tea would work for a fireman - litterally Red Bush (bringing to mind red fire engines or burning bushes maybe) - apparently it has various health giving properties. Milky Chia (tea with lots of mik), as described in 1984, would surley be OK - isn't milk meant to help ulsers? But if tea is deffinatly a no no then hot mugs of Bovril/ Marmite in an old fashioned beef tea style might surffice. I'm guessing Ovaltine wouldn't be the best idea for the nights!

No they arn't - a very tiny minority are franchised and they are usually in conjunction with other ventures - Hotels, service stations - that kind of thing.

That's also an isolated Incident Starbucks apologised for - the mistake of one individual.

Really? I thought all Starbucks were franchised, like Subway?

That's true.

No - I used to work for Subway and they work entirely on Franchises - your right. and because of the quality can vary from store to store. Similar issues have arisen with franchise stores from KFC (see threads on our own dear forum) and the proportion of McDonalds that are franchised.

in order to keep uniformity and a solid level of quality across the board Starbucks are hardly ever franchisees.

I should explain, my husband works for Starbucks, I'm not some chain store nutcase.

Haha... heavily tea stained pots are the best!!! My mum had a white, ceramic like tea pot, that to look inside was completely black/brown.. the tea was lovely. Once when I ever so helpfully decided to clean it as a youngster, the tea tasted shite! I never ever cleaned it ever again!

TY for the suggestions Doc. I think it is baloney about the tea, but I am resricting myself to one a mug of tea a day.

We have Red Bush on station, funnily enough I am the only one who drank it! Aquired taste but I loved it.

Ovaltine no good on nights as I struggle to stay awake already!

I think good old fashioned H2O is the answer!
