There's a technical term for when this happens. It's Buggered! ;)

On a serious note, instead of just re-tuning try going for a total reset / first time installation if you have the option to do so.

Let us know how you get on

Virgin Media's response to box problems is to completely pull the plug out of the wall socket for at least a minute before putting it back in and switching on. Maybe this will work with the Freeview box?

This happened to me a couple of times, press and hold the power button for a few seconds and that resets it, takes a good few minutes to scan etc but seemed to do the trick for me.

Sound advice from Em K there - I forgot that if it doesn't have a first time installation option in the menu's then this is commonly the method to hard reset the box.
+1 for your knowledge

My slightly older Freeview Box with HD had a paddy the other day at Part 1 of the Re-Tune. Several attempts at retuning and Google searches to revive it etc failed.

So I switched it off.
Waited.
Switched it back on.
Re-tuned.
Fixed.
