Geekery

Not of the computer sort. Does anyone else collect/make/play anything that's a bit nerdy?

My name's Jimbob23 and I'm a geek.

I've been reading comics since I were a nipper and my uncle used to give me the comics my nan made him throw away. I've always been a bit of a part-timer, but am really getting into buying comics these days. Been reading Ultimate Vision, Ultimate Power, Spider-Man Reign, Ultimate Wolverine Vs Hulk, Batman Legends, The Astonishing Spider-Man etc of late, and I've become addicted to Forbidden Planet.

Also got a bit of a thing for toys, probably stemming from a yearning to regain the 2 shoeboxes of Star Wars figures, plus numerous vehicles my mum gave away to somebody at work a few years back.

Am really into Japenese vinyl figures at the mo. Panders got me the Murdoch from the most recent Kid Robot Gorillaz range (SQUEAL - check out the 2 tone range - *reaches into pocket for annorexic debit card*) for crimbo, and the Russell from their previous range the year before. I also recently took delivery of the Kid Robot 'Madvillain' figure from the eponymous duo's (MadLib and MF Doom) 'All Caps' video.

There, I've said it. I'm a nerd.

i enjoy doing patchwork and started a duvet cover when i was 13 but have yet to finish it. i was well pissed off when my folks brought some stuff up and the one thing they forgot was the bag with my patchwork in. gonna pick it up tomorrow when i come home.

i also used to collect stamps as a child, individual ones and the sets of new editions. my grandma always used to send me the new editions and when she died, my great aunty took on the stamp mantle and i still get sent them now. the big bonus is theres always a pocket money check when they arrive, so i actually look forward to getting my stamps...even if ive got no interest in the actual stamps.

i have also been known to make cross stitch christmas and easter cards for friends and family.

yes, i too am a geek, albeit a crafty one.

Batman fan myself.
I collect the 'graphic novel' edition as opposed to the individual comic version.
My avatar is the Joker in a bloodfest.
Best Novel - Dark Knight Returns
Read it loads of times. I'd recommend it to anyone (but then again I would, wouldn't I!!)

I used to have around 100 (all but the first one) 2000AD comics but my mum threw them out when we moved house in 1978. I still never let her forget it!!

I've been into Marilyn Monroe since I was 13. The fascination started on the twenty fifth anniversary of her death, a documentary about the conspiracy theories, and seeing Some Like it Hot and I was hooked. I've got more than 30 books on her, and all the films she starred in.
I know some ridiculously bizarre facts, which I believe would stand me in good st ed for Mastermind. "Miss T, your chosen specialised subject is . . ."

Graphic novels - especially Frank Miller and Alan Moore, 2000AD, film stills, classic rock vinyl originals, C64 and Commodore Amiga computer games. That'll do for now. ;)

Her in doors collects all things Hayao Miyazaki and anything that she can get by Tracey Emin.

Erm I have a box which contains ticket stubs from all the home/away matches I've been to. Don't think that's geekery tbh just effin sad.

i used to be a massive CSI geek, but the most recent series of Miami has made my interest wane slightly.. still, i've got loads of DVD box-sets, and used to spend all day at work reading CSI trivia on t'internet instead of doing my job lol.. the new series of Las Vegas has just started on ch5, and it seems to be a return to form :)

jimbob, if you're looking for something a bit more contemporary and away from the marvel side of things, try and get hold of all the back issues of Y - The Last Man.. i'm reading it at the moment and it's quality shiz..

Oh aye, I don't mind a bit of Vertigo. Marvel just happens to be what I'm most into, probably because that's what me uncle used to give me many years ago, but I'll read almost anything comicy.

FooFighter - defo see where you're coming from. The advantage with reading graphic novels, as opposed to collecting the comics is that you don't have to go and hang out with lots of greasy people in Forbidden Planet every week or two to make sure you don't miss anything. Just read 'Gotham by Gaslight' myself, and 'Arkham Asylum', which I first read 10 years ago - although it's been out for nearly 20 (how time flies) - is still one of my favourites and pretty much the thing that got me back into it all.

Did my uni dissertation on the art of Dave McKean and Jamie Hewlett - how they strayed from the comic mainstream yet had very different styles, and what influenced them etc.

And trainers. I love trainers. Currently have:

Blue Nike Vandal Hi, white Nike Vandal Lo, Nike Air Safari 87s, Adidas Forum, Adidas ZX 700, Adidas Stan Smith Comfort, Nike Air Force 2, Nike Terminator, Nike Waffle Trainer, Nike Waffle Racer, Nike Dunk, Adidas Superstar II, Reebok Ventilator, Nike Air Presto, Nike Air Flight 89

and I'm sure there's some I've forgotten. Not what you'd call a collector, but I'd have a lot more if I had the money and the room

I collect photos of my injuries, gory the better, like cuts and shit alike. Best photo I got is of my dislocated thumb, did it while snowboarding. I nearly passed out while I sittin on the mountain waiting for a paramedic for fix it. When he got there on his skiddo I asked him to wait before he cracked it back into place as I was posing for a photograph.

When I finally get enough photos, I want to design a book with them all in it. Just need to some injuries at the mo, I must be going through a dry spell. Need a car crash or sumit spectacular in it.

The forum clearly provides many carthartic qualities for its users.

I do not know if i have any geekery to confess to; unless an obsession (that occasionally arises even now) for playing Championship Manager (various seasons) counts.

And; the ongoing fantasy of a game coming into fruition that comprises both the Managerial qualities of CM and the playing qualities of FIFA or Pro-Evo together to create 'THE ULTIMATE FOOTBALL GAME'.

I feel cleaner now.

Thankyou Forum of Stafford.

Really want a pair of Nike Air Max 1s for the summer (the red, grey and white ones). If anyone spots anywhere I can get a pair in an 11 and a half or 12, let me know, quick sharp.

i don't know the first thing about trainers (my current pair are about 4 years old - seriously) so sorry if i've done this wrong:

NIKE AIR MAX 1 CLASSIC 87 UK 11 US 12 RETRO VINTAGE

NIKE AIR MAX 1 CLASSIC LIMITED EDITION UK 11 US 12 SHOX

i know people say "OH NOES E-GAY [LOLZZZ] IS TEH FAKE!!!!11" but those people are idiots.. as long as you buy from reputable sellers and don't buy off the obviously dodgy people, it's fine.. i've bought loads of stuff (akademiks, fake london genius, wale adeyemi, etc.) from ebay and it's all kosher..

Cheers like, but a UK11's a bit small - I have no probs finding them. 11 and a half/12 are much harder to get me mitts on.
